Needs to go. Needs to be continously pressured. Its our responsibility as fans to never forget this disaster and to stop with all this mediocrity.

His "accomplishments" are ridiculous. They list the WNT winning the London Olympics and the WC as two of his big accomplishments. Neither should be scoffed at, but given that the WNT has been one of the preeminent teams for around 30 years, I don't know what credit he deserves.

Outside of that? He hasn't been successful in getting another WC to the US. (And even with the current bid looking favorable, a) it's a split bid b) I'm certain he could still be involved in that process without being the president of the USSF). He's now currently presiding over a 30 year low point (if not longer) for the MNT.

Not totally surprised, even worse news is he has reached out to people to nominate him for the next election

You know, if he runs and there are multiple other candidates he may very well win again because of a vote split.

If he wants to take credit for the USWNT, he also has to take credit for missing the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, the 2011 U-20 World Cup and the 2013 U-17 World Cup.

When was the last time a person holding a top power position in government/business/sports WILLINGLY gave up that power? It's not in them.

I won't be able to follow US Soccer until we clean house in a way that satisfies me.
I just can't hold on right now until February and hope for the best.
You guys have already said one of the obvious dangers: vote-splitting. Hopefully that doesn't happen. Another danger is that it isn't very many voters, and who knows what their incentives are.

Here's Gulati's e-mail address again:
If you're going to write to him, he will listen more if you give him a sober analysis, and not a hot take. However, I personally don't care what you say to him after this announcement. Do your worst:

Sunil K. Gulati
skg21@columbia.edu

See you guys when I see ya. For now I turn my back on US Soccer. Cold turkey.
I'm back when I can friggin' stomach it. Maybe that's February if Gulati's out, or maybe that's after we clean house and qualify again, hopefully in about 4 years.

For now, though, US Soccer and my favorite team since 1989 are dead to me.

I think the writing is on the wall for this to be his last term. But for him to resign with 4 months left is pointless.

Does anyone know how the US Soccer president is voted in?

Does the board choose?

In short it's complicated. TSS discussed the process in detail with George Quraishi from Howler Magazine. The episode is about three down in their feed and you'll have to fast forward to get to the USSF President election discussion. I want to say that it starts around the mid way point of the episode.

Can Gulati force the USSF as a whole to jsut drop the div 1, 2,3 thing that they require from all leagues?

Cause it seems it's SUM's interest to keep that hegemony up and running. Gulati is a puppet, if you replace him with Donovan or Reyna or even Lalas, how are they going to influence power?

The last question was more ernest, less rhetorical, I just don't see how you could do it. Right now the strength of the USSF is being bouyed from private interest who don't place the production of quality youth over their profits.

I know from a soccer view he needs to go. But with his influence and power in FIFA, plus with a world cup bid on the line no way he goes. More likely we see him retained while putting a technical director who is in charge of the on the field aspects up and down soccer, and allow Gulati to run the World Cup bid and then execute the plan.

What can Gulati do with regards to this?

Presuming he has interest in protect leagues around the country

http://www.espnfc.com/north-american-soccer-l...

That's presuming that he, with no salary stated from the USSF (hpoiefully no ownership interest in SUM or any affiliate that pays him from under the table) even wants to put up a fight against MLS hegemony.
