Carleton also made that happen with that deft touch at midfield.

Don't know about the first half, but Goslin has been fantastic early in the second.

Great ball movement in this game. This maybe the best attacking unit I have aeen from the US at any level.

Ok, now that 1st half is over, I see it was actually a 4-2-1-3. A ridiculous lineup given Weah and Akinola when they pull back to defend are not able to hold the ball or smoothly pass the ball. This whole game has been nothing more than KICKBALL of punting long balls to Akinola on the right flank of the top 3 and hoping you can counter (straight to goal or cross to goal). This is such a regression of US Soccer. A travesty. Yes, they are up 1-0, but there is a bigger point to youth soccer than trying to eek out a victory with trying to do quick counters and disregarding smooth build up play with midfielders who don't lose the ball and who find effective passing lanes.

I am going to be the debbie downer. This game was as misleading as the USMNT's 4-0 win over Panama on Oct 6th, got everyone super excited on Oct 6th. In no way does this team have a functional midfield; it is narrow and lacks ability (in most games) to connect to the strikers. Yes, today much like Oct 6th, we were "on our game", things worked out well, but the weaknesses are profound. It actually may be helpful that if Akinola+Goslin+Ferri can't play in next game versus Eng/Japan, that we can add Booth, Vassilev, and GAcosta and thus may solidify the midfield to allow them to firstly stop having a thousand turnovers with errant passes, next being able to get a good round of possession, don't just rely on quick counters like they did today (which should not be the future of the USMNT and thus shouldn't be the focus on the youth NTs), and see effective passing lanes to the striker. The suspensions/injuries may actually lend a helpful hand to our midfield.

This is the team we have been waiting to see show up. Destroyed Paraguay! Weah with the hat trick and Sargent finally firing on all cylinders!

Well, we clearly saw different things, at least in the second half. We owned the midfield. Goslin linked up with Carleton (with Carleton playing more of CAM role) regularly. Goslin cleaned up nearly everything in front of the back four. Frankly, it was domination at every portion of the pitch.

I meant the entire midfield, the right and left sides of midfield were utterly unused and only served as a receiving site for launched balls to Akinola who was already all the way up the field on the right flank. The way this game ended up won't be replicable.

The U17's played well against an opponent that destroyed teams in their group. They kept a clean sheet against a team that scored 10 goals in the group stage. I mean seriously let's give our boys some damn credit.

The final stretch of the English league season is upon us, with several Americans on the verge of relegation with their teams.
