So just to be clear, are you suggesting that the USMNT would intentionally lose the GC in order to play in the CONCACAF playoff and get money as a result - thus, potentially taking a risk on losing out on the (presumably) greater amount of money that would come with being in the Confederations Cup?

No, I'm just speculating that we will see Mex v USA in a playoff...I have no idea what will transpire to make it happen, but I'm guessing Mex will not win both GCs and neither will we....and there just might be a few odd concacrap calls along the way...that hypothetically might allow that to happen...haha.

If we win this summer there will be no playoff and we go straight to the confederations cup. We won the last GC. All the more reason to try and take this GC serious because there is more at stake.

Im a bit indifferent on the hire, but I do like he's a former Nat and has played/coached abroad.

Atlanta is reportedly courting Schelotto as Tata's replacement. Earnie couldn't get in on that action? Bocanegra withdrawing from the GM search still stings.

Not sure what he is saying, but potentially being in the Confederations Cup can be dicey for us.

First off, it happens right after the GC...right? So that is a potentially weakened lineup in the GC as we will put our best team out there for the CC.

Many of our best players are Euro based and starters in always precarious positions. Being in the CC forces them to miss a bit of training which in turn puts them in peril of losing said starting position.

Losing said starting position puts them in peril of losing match fitness and form...and given that we will presumably be starting the last hex of the WC qualifiers that fall it could be problematic.

Would still rather be there, but pointing out scenarios where it could not be in our interest.

If we qualified for the CC, then we would send a B team to the GC - just like Mexico did this past time. That is not a problem.

If we make the CC, it will be played in the summer - when club teams are not in season and typically give their starting players breaks or let them go to their national teams. That is no problem.

This would only be problematic to players who are not starters and are youth/reserve players on the fringe of their club first team hoping for preseason friendlies to showcase that they are worth keeping around. Those friendlies typically take place after the CC would end, so that's not a problem. Also, none of those guys should be included in the CC roster anyways, so that shouldn't be a problem.

If we did bring fringe club players, it would be more valuable for them to get minutes in a legitimate competitive game against (depending on the draw and who we play) world class players - instead of against other sub par players during preseason without many first team players in training. This also is no problem.

If players are tired after the confederations cup, their club teams will recognize it because the player played a long season and is coming off of a major international tournament, and that player will likely get a rest during the summer friendlies. This is commonplace among club teams during the summer and after big tournaments. This is not a problem.

There really aren't any legitimate negatives to us playing in the confederations cup. The negatives come if we dont qualify for the CC - loss of revenue, loss of competitive games/scenarios like the WC, loss of the ability to play meaningful competitive games against non concacaf opponents, etc. These aren't exactly the end of the world though.

The only real negative would be if a key player injured themselves in the tournament and it was a long term one that put them in jeopardy of playing in/being in form for the WC. However, injuries like that can happen at any time and you can't predict them. They are just as likely to happen in practice as in a game, so this too is no problem.

I think for the most part, people are ok with the hire. Its the process that stings. This could have and should have been decided along time ago. I have no doubt the deal was in place for a while; and that he was one behind certain roster selections.

I agree with 2tone, at this point we all need to get behind him and hope he gets us organized and can bring identity, creativity to the team.

Bc of the drawn out process we are now short on time as every one has alluded too.

Look forward to seeing his first roster so we can get an idea into his thought process and potential formation etc

MLS site has a nice interview with GB...Sounds like he had a real strong connection to his bunch of guys on his team and wanted to see the season through with them...and USSF respected that... appears they were sitting on Berhalter...probably explains the shallow candidate pool and bogus global search.

Gold cup is his first test as a coach. Hopefully he can implement a plan to win that tournament.

He has camp cupcake, the spring friendlies and tune up friendlies prior to the gold cup to identify his starting 11.

Will Sargent and Weah be with full team or with the u20's? Will Amon(who I think is the player who is most ready from the u20's to be a full national team player be with the u20's or the USMNT?)

If I am constructing a starting 11 right now Amon is my left winger not Weah.

He should have coached the NT at the same time as the Crew then. Or they could have at least announced that he would be taking over at the end of the season so that the players had an idea of what was going on.

The whole process was just...I can't even find words to describe it.

The process was a farce, but time to move on and support the team
