Why? If we couldn't take care of business on our own we have no business going to Russia.

A few years back we had a very talented U-20 team (Gyau, Hamid, Shea) that should have easily advanced from their group and qualified for the WC...they did not make it. Lessons should have been learned then that effort, skill, and teamwork are all needed to advance.

I was about to go to bed then I made the mistake of reading this Arena quote and it has me riled up so I can't sleep:

"There's nothing wrong with what we're doing," he said. "Certainly as our league grows, it advances the national team program. We have some good young players come up.

"Nothing has to change. To make any kind of crazy changes I think would be foolish. We're building a good system in our professional league. We have players playing abroad of some quality. There's enough there. There's no excuses for us not qualifying for the World Cup."

You know, scrap the draft and the minimum salary crap. Let's make it free market and make our players hungrier. Entice players to leave college early and get the extra professional development if they want to try soccer as a profession.

I hope Arena eats an entire humble pie and then eat 'I should never coach outside MLS again' pie. I have never been a fan of his even in 2002. I felt that team overachieved and it probably set us back with their success and put Arena on a pedestal as an international coach that he never should have been on. I blame the players as well but the hiring on Bruce was a panic hire and showed that we have not progressed as a soccer country.

Does anyone remember how we under-performed in 2006 after being rated 4th(a rating we should have never been anyway)? I say this because Bruce Arena as an international coach cannot live up to the lofty expectations placed on him. He was a one trick pony and was better as a surprise coach at this level at best.

I cannot stand Arena's arrogance. I am saddened we went out but I am glad it was on his dime and not JK because people have been riding JK for awhile but Arena could not get the result out of Arena players. Arena was pro-MLS and that was his downfall. JK was anti-MLS and his downfall was not getting the best out of the MLS players when he called them out.

I hope Arena resigns and Gulati resigns and Garber eats the crumbs of Arena's humble pie and realize that MLS is not that great right now.

I think some of the concern that missing the World Cup will damage the sport in the US, particularly the MLS, is misplaced. MLS is a niche sport here-not a lot of casual fans, if any. Rather, they are already hard core soccer fans who aren't going to stop being a supporter because the US is sitting home next summer.

Moreover, outside maybe Dempsey, Howard, and a few others, I don't think any kids playing youth soccer are idolizing MLS players. They are looking at Ronaldo, Messi, Kane, Pulisic, and teams like a Barca, PSG, etc. As long as those guys and teams continue to be televised, youth soccer will be fine.

Short term, the WC ratings will probably take a hit, but most networks bidding on WC rights will likely recognize the long term positive trend in terms of ROI on soccer broadcast rights. I therefore doubt we see any negative impacts for the WC.

Maybe it slows the growth in fans, as you have less casual fans that carryover from the WC, but I still think that effects big clubs more than the MLS.

This completely sucks, but there is enough of a beachhead with soccer in the States to weather missing out on Russia.

Were we playing a 4-1-5 because Bradley was the only player in the midfield. Nagbe should have been on the player and never allowed that shot which made goal 2. Gonzo better not ever be in a US shirt or I'll turn the channel. Time to clean house in USSF.

When Arena was hired I said with is "experienced veteran" plan would assure we didn't qualify.

I see one possible negative of this. Is CCV pledge solely to US team? If not, he may think more of who to play for.

Wow.

The good will be we clean house asap. The bad whom maybe on the radar who is not cap tied that thinks twice about committing.

Here is a thought as well. Last night was madding, Bradley looked like he wanted to play center back and have 2 ft passes and or back passes. Jozy was lazy no one minus yedlin and pulisic looked like they wanted to play zero effort. Pulisic was yelling at people to hurry up, cant america bradley was just trotting around the field.

I wonder if the germicans grew tired of seeing people keep their spot after poor performances and their attitude deteriorated b.c of it. They are used to having to perform all week just to play.

Bradley, Jozy, Gonzo never should have been on the field, people have been talking about bradley lack of play for a while, yet there he is in the line up.

why didn't cameron play, was he hurt?

Arenas subs horrible-why bring on a defender, he should have brought benny on soon and brought on JA or wondo we needed offense.

This was the same type of effort seen against CR that got JK fired.

Maybe just maybe this will wake up everyone in US soccer, no more guaranteed spots.

It should be if you come back to mls you lose your spot on the Nats.

ahh Im just venting, Hope to get a new TD and a different HC and get our young players on the field.

Sunil needs to go, I wouldn't mind having Twellman replace Sunil.

The problem is the money and their hegemony over the federation.

MLS always should be "HOW DO WE MAKE MONEY"

USSF should always be asking "HOW DO YOU MAKE OUR NATIONAL TEAM BETTER AND LANDSCAPE FOR SOCCER IN THE USA?"

Sunil tried rocking the system with Klinsmann hire. The system said, "no."
