I just want Gonzalez to be sold as soon as possible. I want him out of Mexico and so he can get away from people pushing him towards FMF every day

Wow. Jonathan Gonzalez said nobody from the USMNT called him leading into the Portugal game. Sounds a little upset by that. What a massive mistake, granted Monterray had a huge game but at least pick up the phone and talk him through his standing. Granted they are 6 to 7 guys deep in d midfielders but that is still a fireable offense for a coaching staff that is temporary anyways.

@ goods

I read that article too. A lot of good questions & answers about his career. Pretty interesting about him going to high school in Mexico and especially hearing about that U20 World Cup snub from Ramos.

US Soccer is a joke for not calling this kid in. He should've easily started over Michael Bradley in the last 4 WCQ games. The kid said he's a defensive midfielder who likes to attack... I think we'll land him in March though

March may be too late. I just don't think that it's too much to ask for someone at USSF to pick up the phone and send the kid a text saying they were leaving him off during the November match to focus on the Liga MX playoffs and he'd be in for sure during the next window... We wouldn't be having half these articles that we're reading now in which he sounds like he is beginning to be open to the idea of playing for Mexico.

Of course he would consider mexico. Right now, we have a system that allows guaranteed starters, we didn't make the world cup, we don't have a coach, we are in search of a new president, and we are going to a youth movement and we decided he wasn't worth a call--cant blame him if he takes mexico's call.

My biggest issue here and other soccer comment blogs, people stating he and our other youth talent may not/are not ready for international competition. How will you ever know if you do not put them into competition. At the very least, call them up and let them practice against/with your "guaranteed" starters and see what they do/bring to that level. I believe 100%, if a "kid" has talent, it does not matter the age, they will rise to the top. When do you start incorporating them into the senior program? Would of should of could of...whatever. Kid is making first team bench in one of the top four leagues...starting cup games, earning minutes in league games, you going to tell me MB is better than that kid? The mentality the kids are learning fighting for a roster spot in the Euro/Mexican leagues put them above their MLS counterparts. Bring them in as quickly as you can and see in real time what they bring against the established "stars". MB is guaranteed to start in MLS, barring health issues like Dempsey, and never fights for his spot on the team sheet from practice to game day. You can see it in his play the whole HEX campaign. MB does have a very good soccer brain, but his play reflects his practice environment. You play like you practice. He chose money in coming back to MLS, that is his right and he has to do right by his family. His USMNT play is nowhere near what it used to be. I do believe US Soccer has marketing "stars" they demand make the team and start. Just like Mexico did in 2014 and it almost cost them the WC. It did cost us.

Gonzalez is a smart kid, believe he was just giving straight forward answers and to vent his displeasure with US Soccer. GOOD!!! I do think he will stay with USA because he knows he has to file one time switch which will permanently tie him to Mexico. He is going to wait to see what happens in March and then file if there is no call up by us.

Looks like Mexico is trying to take advantage (they'd be dumb not to) and get him to commit this month

lol I haven't looked at Ives website in awhile. I'm sure we're good if it's being reported that USSF tried to call him in for the January game.

The Mexican league has tougher media than almost anywhere. Hats off to the kid for dealing with the issue and I hope he gets a move to a bigger club and league soon.

Why I said that USSF should have gotten a head coach right away instead of waiting. There were and still are plenty of quality coaches they could have contacted after they fired Bruce.

He is or was ready. He plays with players who have been in national teams in South America and Mexico and day in and out practices with them over a Jonathan Osorio, Marky Delgado, or Vazquez who could not cut it in Mexico. His career is somewhat parallel or similar to Adams but in a much more tougher and technical league. Adams gets the call over him. I like Adams play and all but I'd rate Gonzalez over him.

Travesty to lose him.

I thought the reason that he wasnt called up in November was that he had a important Liga MX game.

Well I don't rate Gonzales over Adams. I think they are two completely types of CM's. And I would put them both as top prospects. I don't necessarily want to lose Gonzales to Mexico. I definitely think there has been some clear mishandling of him, but if Jona wants to play with El Tri then so be it.

We will just have to kick in with are other talented CM's: McKennie, Adams, Parks, Juan Torres etc... I dont think it will be a huge loss if it this happens in the long run. A loss yes, but not a huge loss.

It would be a big deal because Gonzalez is the only one who has shown he can play regularly for a big team (Liga Mx winners). Adams plays for the Red Bulls and we have no idea if he could make it for Gonzalez's team. Parks has played virtually a handful of minutes and we don't know anything about yet. I want him to stay big time.
