Physically strong. Someone ran right into him and he didn't even budge.

Oh what a difference level of competition makes. Today Schalke played Crystal Palace. They are certainly no powerhouse, but they are much better than the no-name team they played on July 26.

Weston played the 2nd half. Now that he was playing against a decent team, his weaknesses were glaring. I can't believe they see Weston as a D-mid, because he is neither mobile nor energetic. He doesn't close down passing lanes and he barely gets involved in the action. With the ball at his feet it was often awkward. He was slipping numerous times on the pitch for no reason, just while defending the other player who had the ball (others were not slipping). He had ~2 or 3 moments of very nice passes in the attacking third of the pitch. I would actually say he was sort of reminding me of a Zelalem 2.0. I would say he is not ready for Schalke 1st team action this season and I think he would be better served playing higher up the pitch.

Thanks for the summary, I didn't catch the game. At least we can praise his German skills. Really impressive.

Is just a friendly let him get a whole season under his belt. Then we can compare and make assumptions what kind of player he can be he is still Raw and young but has the potential to be an all time great has to keep his head straight and work hard only time will tell.

Anyone get a chance to see him? Random twitter dudes seemed to like his play.

Talented kid entering his first pro season. He will have ups and downs, but he clearly has talent and the backing of the coaching staff. He will get many minutes this year.

Weston played the final 15 minutes for Schalkes 2-0 win today. Did well to defend, break up plays and did some crafty work with the ball.

Cheeky yellow card but otherwise I was impressed.
Wonder where he fits best with the Nats.

Acosta's position. Which by the way should be Bradley's position.

Rather, that should be the position that Bradley is slotted to, where he gets replaced by either Acsota or Mckinnie. Or hell even someone more attacking like Nagbe or Nguyen where you have Cameron as the CDM.

Wow that was ass backwards.

Last year, this was Lynden Gooch. Hopefully McKennie stays healthy so he can really push on from here where Gooch hit an injury roadblock. For the usmnt, injuries are a problem because quality depth is a problem. Still waiting for Hyndman to come back as well, because until these guys prove week in week out they can hang with Bradley (due to outstanding club play), then they will take his spot. But that's not until after Russia 2018 (Bruce will not change out Bradley) anyway. A solid season would hopefully see McKennie on the bench in Russia, at minimum in a no appearance Mix Diskerud fashion. Or as a bonus he could do more....

I get the comparison. But Gooch failed to make U20s.

Mckennie is a 17 year old. Also it seems as though Gooch was a tweener.

And of course, Schalke's herald isn't the same as Sunderland.
