My starting 11 in a 4-2-3-1:

------Altidore------
Fabian---Deuce-----Pulisic
-----Nagbe--------
----------Bradley------
Villa---Besler-----Cam----Zusi
----------Howard--------

Subs: Guzan, Lichaj, Ream, Hedges, Bedoya, Arriola, Roldan, Morris, Wood

Wood, Morris, Arriola as my expected subs for the second half.

It's going to be interesting. Arena still hasn't done the whole Nagbe int he middle of the park thing.

Also if i had to guess, Nagbe would be out wide, FJ on bench or at Rb.

If FJ on bench, Ream and Besler in the middle.

My Starting 11 in a 3-4-1-2

Howard
OG, Cameron, Besler,
FJ, Nagbe, Bradley, Villa
Pulisic
Wood, Altidore

I would start Deuce except he would get in the way of Pulisic, who has a free role behind the two strikers.

It asks a lot of FJ and Villa, but having the extra defender back there mitigates to some degree them getting caught upfield.

In a set of Duece, Altidore, Wood, and you had to choose two.

What would be your rationale?

What I suspect Bruce chooses:

---Wood--Altidore
Nagbe--Pulisic--Fabian
-----Bradley
Villa-Besler--Cam--Zusi
---Howard

Sub in 60th minute: Fabian out, Arriola in.
Sub in 75th minute: Jozy and Wood out, Morris and Dempsey in

I'd love to hear what more of you think Arena's lineup will be.

Today's Total Soccer Show has the dumb opinions and unlistenable voice of Rob Usry talking about the current roster.

Attempt to listen at your peril.

My guess is that Bruce is thinking if it ain't broke... and goes with the same starting Lineup as the 2-0 Gold Cup game against Costa Rica with only two changes Pulisic for Arriola and Cameron for Besler as they're both simply too good not to start.

I posted earlier in this thread that I thought the backline would be Villafana-Besler-Omar-Cameron but I really think Bruce will play Zusi at RB.

Yes but he talked about Fab being more important as an option at RB than in the Midfield and he's right about that.

skangy, everyone on this site knows that.

I have a unexpectedly intense opinion about Rob Usry sucking, yes, I know.

I was ok with today's TSS, nothing too enlightening but it got me through my commute and I don't think Usry said anything too controversial. I mean I don't want to see Tyler Adams starting at RB in a critical qualifier but our alternatives include starting Zusi so I can't really fault any RB suggestion.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to Daryl and Taylor's proper preview show tomorrow.

How much turnover in the starting 11 do you expect to see in Honduras? I think Wood and Beasley will start in Honduras but not in Harrison.

As much as our Defense isn't in great shape, this should really make you feel good about the form of our attack going into these two qualifiers.

  • Jozy - Goals on Aug 27 and Aug 23
  • Clint - Goal on Aug 20 and assist on Aug 5 (7 goals in last 10 games)
  • Wood - Goal on Aug 25
  • Wondo - Goals on Aug 27, Aug 19 and Aug 5
  • Nagbe - Stunning Goal on Aug 23
  • Pulisic - Goal and assist on Aug 19
  • Bedoya - Goal on Aug 26
  • Roldan - Goal on Aug 27

  • Morris - Last goal on Aug 5. and assist on Aug 12.
  • Arriola - Goal on Aug 2 for Los Xolos.
  • McCarty - Assist on Aug 12

I might be pushing it a bit by including Morris, Arriola and McCarty but for the rest of the players that's a heck of a lot of production in the past two weeks.

One interesting tidbit is that the outcome of the Costa Rica game drastically effects the importance of the away to Honduras game. If we beat Costa Rica then its ok to lose to Honduras (get the 3 at home and you're ok). If we lose or draw to Costa Rica then we have to win at Honduras or we are looking at 4th place in all likelihood (at best). Id imagine Arena will go all out to win at home and if we do so we'll likely see a rotation like we did against Mexico (bring in Arriola, Morris, Guzan, Lichaj for Jozy, Zusi, Howard, Wood, swap CBs, etc).
