The funny part is theres proof against your silly argument. You just dont want to hear it. By your logic Barca's B squad (their youth team) should steamroll opponents. In 2015 they were relegated from Segunda league down to the 3rd level of Spain. Thats right. All these 18-20 year old that Barcelona wants, finished in 22nd place in a league made up mostly of guys that will never see the first division of a real league. A bunch of 26-32 year old has beens, never were, and never will be, routinely beat some of the best 18/19 yr olds in the world.

In Portugal the dominant team (FC Porto) finished 12th in the second division. Again those are the best young Portuguese players and they cant beat journeymen. Just being young and talented doesnt mean you are the best player in the world.

Further to this argument you can look to the EFL trophy in England last year, specifically Chelsea, who got to field their academy team (U-23) against professionals in the lower league of England.

To give background...a number of this group helped Chelsea win back to back U-19 Champions League and 6 of the last 7 Youth FA Cups. In other words they were close to dominant in the youth ranks.

However playing against less skilled professionals, this gifted group of youngsters managed only a tie at home, finishing last in a group with such powerhouses as Swindon Town, Oxford United, and Exeter City.

It is literally boys playing against men...some like Pulisic can manage at a younger age but most need seasoning and physical maturing.

How can you not call up Timothy Tillman after watching this! Kid is legit.... US Soccer and 99% people on this board are too scared to see a Pulisic/Tillman combo. They happy with mediocre non attacking soccer !!

I think Tillman is pretty content with the German NT setup right now from what I remember reading. He's got talent for sure. If it doesn't work out down the road and he's playing at a Bundesliga level he'll get his USMNT opportunity. But to MSantoine's point, not every 19 year old is ready for prime time. Most probably aren't.

Roughly 2 weeks away from WCQ's and we seem to be wracking up the injuries & players not getting minutes. Yedlin is currently sidelined & Brooks went down this past weekend. Villafana, Gonzalez, & Lichaj were unused or DND....it's got me a little worried about our defense ahead of an important game against CR.

Roster:
GK - Howard, Guzan, Hamid
D - Cameron, Besler, Gonzalez, Ream, Chandler, Villafana, Lichaj, Zusi
M - Bradley, Nagbe, Fabian, Pulisic, Acosta, Zardes, Rowe, Williams,
F - Jozy, Wood, Dempsey, Morris,

If Yedlin & Brooks can return to action than they'll knock Ream & Zusi off the roster. Rowe was one of the few bright spots from the original GC roster so I included him, but he could be replaced with Dwyer if Bruce wanted to go with 5 forwards.

Arriola not going to be there?

He took him to Azteca in a must get a point game. I agree with alot of your squad Dave, but I suspect we're going to see him there against Costa Rica. in the 18, or in the starting lineup itself.

Also, still think Bedoya gets called in.

Don't count out Manneh to get a shock callup for these qualifiers. Looks to Be getting back to his old form now with the Crew.

This has disaster written all over it. Bruce is going to earn his money we need a win a draw would be OK but it would have to be followed with a road draw at minimum.

Brooks out three months. The waisted year on the Tottenham bench hurts, thus could have been his shot to step in and displace Brooks. To me Brooks needs to go, incredibly talented but your best asset as an athlete is availability. He does not have that, cannot ride long distances on a plane without his muscles tightening, dehydration in a 60 degree game, constantly mentally absent in big games once something goes wrong.

Send our best CB packing...because why? You are really suggesting that we not call him in if he's healthy and playing just because he's been injured in the past?

Brooks is the most talented CB we have ever had. He definitely has had his mistakes, especially in CONCACAF games, but we've never had anyone playing at his level, not even Bocanegra or Cameron. Besides, our third best CB is...?

I'm not hung up on CCV spending time on the bench. Most top players spend some time on the sideline while they're young. Not everyone goes from loan to loan until playing for their club's first team.

He is always injured. Your best asset is availability and he just never is. By and large easily the best CB talent, but we have to be able to move on if he cannot fly on a plane, or has constant injury issues.

Youre overreacting but i do think he hasnt been up to snuff since the Copa Centanario. Hes still a starter to me. Tough loss.

Also Sciaretta says that Yedlin has returned to training so a little bit of good news.

My hunch is that we will see a backline of

Villafana - Besler - Gonzo - Cameron against Costa Rica.

Maybe Ream for Besler, but I could definitely see Arena going with this.
