I think that is the best line up we can go with. Altidore not being available, and the book is out against this team. Go physical and they wither. Lichaj is used to it in the Championship. I agree go with Cameron in DMID and the Gonzo/Besler gives more grit. I would go with Beasley at LB. He is much more prepared for a road game in Hondurous than Johnson.

Wood

Dempsey

Morris Pulisic Zusi

Bradley

Fabian Besler Cameron Lijac

WE can't wait to bring Dempsey on if we are down a goal, we need to score the 1st goal.

If we do, in the 60th or so we an take Dempsey off and throw altidore in and bring nagbe in for morris.

Im not a zusi guy but he can cross the ball and frankly he looked good vs CR. we need the field to be wide so we can spread them out once they park the bus. the other side gives us some speed on the flanks wirth morris

I really don't like Nagbe not being on the field say what you want about his vision the guy can hold the ball and doesn't have a led touch

If bruce had balls he would put cameron in Bradleys spot, and I guess put gonzo or hedges in the back.

If you watched the last game cameron while he had a bad game he was at times pushing forward while bradley sat 3 inches from him. You could see the aggravation in his body language-he can play dmid at this point better than bradley but this will never happen

bottom line we need 3 points-

Bradley is always there to pick up the ball. But there was 4 to 5 times where Cameron just rocketed a pass forward which became an easy turnover. Him and Ream had a bad game. But we need Cameron to be good in possession or we're fucked.

But I think you're onto a bigger point here. Anytime the US loses the ball anywhere near our end of the field Im immediately hyperventilating. This team is so bad in transition. This is where a pure DM like a Beckerman would be handy. Love Bradley but hes more of a deep lying playmaker than a defensive midfielder at this point.

When we lose the ball, the problem is Bradley is too slow to recover. We need a better athlete like D Will on the field, Beckerman was always useless at international level because of physical limitations.

Beckerman was good in the 2014 World Cup. He knew his role well and did not over play it. I still think Howard took that Barage from Belgium because Beckermann was not out there taking a professional foul or just clearing a ball to reset the defense.

lol I need more people to tell me Beckerman was good at WC 2014.
I can't think of anything positive he did, if anything I barely knew he was on the field if he wasn't being blown, wrong footed, by or muscled off the ball.

San Pedro Sula is not an easy place to play and the quality of the Honduran side is arguably better than it has been in the past but it's not like we have struggled to get results in Honduras.

Everybody remembers the 2-1 loss in the 2014 cycle but prior to that game we had won our two previous games in San Pedro Sula.

2009 WCQ: US won 3-2
2001 WCQ: US won 2-1

I expect the team to get 3 points.

Went back and looked at some ratings on Beckerman. He was between a y.5 and a 7. Granted that means little depending on the ratings. But he played in every minute of the group stages. His passing was over 90%, and as ESPN said he protected the back line allowing the rest of the mid field to play higher. ESPN also questioned why was he not brought on for the 2nd half of Belgium as an outlet.

As much as I'd like to see Cam at Dmid and gamble with Besler/Omar at CB, It think we have to have him in the back.

We need an alternate creative focal point to take some pressure off Pulisic and MB. It should have been Fab last game but he didn't show up. Everybody knows everything flows through MB and Pulisic, so we need somebody else to be a supplemental creator. I think Bruce missed the boat not bringing another player capable of that role. SK, Nguyen, Rowe, take you pick, they wouldn't need to carry the team , just pick out a nice pass now and then to keep the defense honest...

I think we can get a little more joy on the flanks this game with more speed.

Need more speed at flank back...flopping Fab to RB

Maybe bring Acosta on to allow MB to get up field a little further so we can quickly switch away to him when things close on Pulisic and vice versa

I'll go 4-2-3-1

.................BWood...............
.........Pulisic..................
Arriola....................Morris
..........Acosta...MB...........
Beas...Besler...Cam.....Fab
...........Howard..........

Wait, you're not keen on Arriola's touch and crossing, but you're ok with Zardes?

It's a reality that neither of them offer much in the way of world class technique. The thing I liked consistently about Arriola is the ability to drag that line back allowing for room for our creative players to operate in.

For about a good number of years, ever since we've been using Donovan Dempsey, then onto EJ and forwards as wingers type projects, we've been dealt with defenses who are able to put considerable pressure on our midfield because there was no threat of a wing back getting beat. As bad as Arriola has been at crossing, and I guess Zardes has a bit of this too, their bad touches are on the positive side of our line of scrimmage. Rendering us space for Pulisic, Altidore, Dempsey, Wood etc.

I really am not okay with Zardes, I have ragged on him a lot before (I think on here, but definitely a good amount away from here), but I like his play just slightly more, but I get it with Arriola, too. I just have other options I prefer or want to see get a chance, like, again, Julian Green still or Kenny Saief when he returns to health.

With us paying 2 central midfielders, neither being a #10, Beckerman also didn't have much ground to cover or much responsibility. My problem with that rating is you could've put anybody in that slot and got same performance or better.
If you're telling me D.Will, Mckennie, Adams, Morales, J. Gonzales can't shield the cbs and cover 20 yds of space, I strongly respectfully disagree.

@bjelks- beckerman was a good player with discipline and vision. His experience and judgment is above those you mentioned, as of 2014. Nobody is saying to play beckerman now, but his style and positioning is sorely missed. Bradley is just not a defensive midfielder. And maybe those guys can shield the CBs but they aren't yet a part of the team, or like Morales have proven otherwise. Ragging on beckerman is hurting your point of having people correctly placed and functioning at a high level. The USA team misses Kyle B and his as of yet to be found replacement.

Personally, this would be my lineup for Honduras:
3-4-1-2
Wood Morris
Pulisic
Nagbe Acosta
Fabian Zusi
Ream Besler Cameron
Howard

Also, I'm nearly through with Howard, honestly. He might finally be done, it's time to start integrating Horvath, Gonzalez, and the rest.

@bjelks I think all of those guys will eventually be at that level and much better that Beckerman. I think once D will is playing 90 minutes he is the needed man for that spot. Adams and Gonzalez who are both getting first team starting minutes should definitely get a call up in October to at least show what they have. Bruce has shown a willingness to bring in 26 guys to camp. In October being in some kids who are starting let's see what they have.

Crap...I forgot about Nagbe in my 4-2-3-1...replace Arriola with Nagbe...tuck him in a little.
