So what is everyone's starting 11 against Costa Rica and Honduras?

Here is my starting 11 against Costa Rica:

-Wood-
Fabian-/Pulisic-Nagbe
-Acosta-/-Bradley-
Villafana-Brooks-Cam-Yedlin
--Howard-

Subs: Agudelo, McCarty, Corona

Starting 11 against Honduras:

-Deuce-Altidore-
Pulisic---Nagbe
-Acosta-Bradley-
Lichaj-Brooks-Cam-Yedlin
--Guzan--

Subs: Dwyer, Fabian, McCarty

I have a feeling Morris may play himself out of contention if his production for both club and country don't uptick soon. Agudelo is right on his tail imo.

I cant see fabian ever being on the bench, i would say he starts at LB for both games.

I too am wondering if the Acosta Bradley Attitude Era has begun.

He was on the bench for the Mexico game.

Difference being the quick turn around between the T&T game and the game against Mexico. If there had been another day (or two) between matches I believe that Fabian would have been a starter in both. Bruce basically made wholesale changes between the 2 games due to the quick turnaround.

I really, really hope that McCarty isn't part of the 23, let alone being subbed in. I just don't see him being an effective player against decent sides. I'm hoping that Williams or someone else takes over the back-up CDM roll.

I hope Bruce is capable of thinking outside the box and picking players based on quality and not how much they've played with the team in the past.

With that being said, D. Will, Saief, Hyndman, Mckennie, Chandler, Miazga, possibly Gooch or Boyd.

Fab needs to pick it up. We have options now at flank, so he needs to get stuff done when he's in his preferred position. No more sleepy invisible games.

Honestly, I don't think he would react very well to being bumped to the back line. Especially after discussing with Arena the problem he had before with no set position...he'd probably look at it like a demotion.

Imo, he's not all that defensively at flank back. His overlaps are fantastic and his recovery speed is built in, but he's had a few lapses in concentration...also loses aerial challenges...he"s not exactly lock down. His recovery speed saves him...

It will be interesting to see what Arena does with him if continues to have sleepy games at mid. I wouldn't put it past Arena to bench him to send a message.

Maybe. But I think he made it easy for Bruce to bench him against Mexico with his meh performances in the friendly and then against T&T. Fabian has talent but the last time he look d really good for the US is as at the World Cup as a RB.

I am also in the camp that Acosta will be playing in Europe sooner rather than later.

I think Bruce has shown he'll play the defensive 4-4-2 only when he thinks we'll be out possessed and on our back foot (at Panama, at Mexico). Id like to think we wont play that way vs Honduras and should be able to stick with the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 hybrid we play when we are considered the favorite. Also think he sticks with same/similar lineups for both games and just brings in extra people in case suspensions come up after CR (dont we have like 6 players one yellow away from suspension including Bradley, Cameron, Brooks, Villafana?)

One of the biggest questions facing Bruce is what to do with this guy.

It looks like there were loads of Costa Rican fans at tonight's Gold Cup match vs Honduras at Red Bull Arena. I strongly disagree with US Soccer's decision to schedule the WCQ in Harrison for a few reasons.

1) Costa Rica clearly draws well in he NY/NJ Metrostar area
2) Costa Rica beat us 1-0 in 2015 at Red Bull Arena

Playing this game in Denver would have been awesome. September 1 is a bit early to hope for snow but the US would have the psychological advantage and it would have been a nice middle finger gesture to start the mind games early.

US Soccer scheduled June brilliantly with the Friendly in Salt Lake, T&T in Denver and then going down to Azteca and I wouldn't have changed that one iota but it feels like the desire to rotate the national team to big markets is clouding US Soccer's judgment on what gives us the best chance to get 3 points. I don't care if they both recently hosted games Denver or Salt Lake would have been good options for the WCQ against Costa Rica. Other sites that would have made more sense than Red Bull are Kansas City and Columbus. I would have recommended that US Soccer give NY a high profile Friendly and schedule the WCQ in an environment that gives us the best chance to win.

I think it was @blaise last time who laughed about where we play our qualifiers. First of all, the game that was in Denver should've been at a bigger venue i.e. Broncos stadium. This time around if we are going this route, why not the Giants and Jets stadium? If they want to go to big markets, play in larger capacity stadiums, not these little MLS venues. For me Seattle would have been perfect..... Heck, give Atlanta a game before New York Red Bull. It's a tough game regardless of venue as Costa Rica is always a tough opponent and we are average for a USA team currently.

I truly believe that at this moment Dempsey is best utilized in the super-sub roll when we need a goal. Ever since Pulisic's emergence as a creative presence it's become clear that as good as Clint is, he is no longer an ever game starter. Against T&T they were often occupying the same space. Then there's Jozy & Wood (when healthy)....they've been making a very good combination when we deploy in a 2 striker formation.

As for the locations of matches....I've always thought that the USSF has done a fairly poor job of selecting locations that provide the team an advantage. Against Mexico & Costa Rica (our 2 biggest opponents) they should be targeting smaller market arena's in cold/cool weather locations. Against 2nd tier opponents (Panama & Honduras) Mid-West or Altitude locations would be best. Against Canada and the other Minnows rotate the games through the rest of the nation.

Costa Rica is gonna be the Home team when they play USA horrible scheduling should of gone to Portland or Seattle. Good thing we didn't play Honduras there if not it would of been worst. But Bruce knows what he is doing and will get us to the promise land.
