Jones had a good game today and while I've only seen a few of his club matches I've gotten to thinking that he really plays better for his club than the USMNT. That being said I think people underrate jones. He does give the ball away sometimes but he's a solid player. And that bandwagon saying "he's a red card waiting to happen" is starting to annoy me cuz how many times has he gotten a red card for the US and his yellow today was his first in 5 matches. Anyways what I liked was today his coach played him as more of a number 8 today which might help him get better at that position which is where klinsmann seems to like to play him.

Jermaine Jones is beast mode!

Jones is at his best when michael bradley isnt on the field with him. Those two paired up never work (excluding Scotland)

I agree. It annoys me when people say that Jones is bad. Without a doubt, Jones is our best defensive player and he is arguably one of our best offensive players. Here is my argument:

In terms of defense, he has decent speed, a great ability to read the game defensively, has height, has strength, can tackle well, and he is not afraid to get in on a tackle. Jones is a bone cruncher, and nobody else on the national team can offer what Jones has to offer. Think of Nigel de Jong. He has an intimidation factor about him that makes him a presence on the field. The same applies to Jones. NOBODY on the national team is as complete defensively as Jones is.

In terms of offense, his previously stated speed, size, and strength are all valuable offensive traits. He also has great vision and a great understanding of what needs to be done OFF THE BALL, something that practically the entire US squad does not have. He can win balls in the air, hold the ball well, and 99% of the time he is the only midfielder that makes runs forward. He understands that the play does not end when he gets rid of the ball, and gets into the box after he passes it. And with a guy his size making a run into the box, he frees up space for other players by attracting more attention from defenders.

I totally agree. Jones and Bradley are both box to box midfielders. Bradley is a pretty good player because he is all around OK. No part of his game stands out other than the fact that he is pretty well rounded. In all honesty, Jones plays his position and he plays it BETTER. Dont get me wrong, he should be in the squad. But there is only room for one of those types of players in a starting line up and that player is Jones. WITHOUT A DOUBT.

Doesn't matter. Williams and Bradley play great together and will only get better. Jones is old and only getting older. Jones is a bench option; Williams is the starter.

The key to this is praying that Stuart Holden gets back to his old self.

I prefer Jones over bradley

Jones pushes the ball forward more and takes more chances. Bradley plays safe with a lot of back passes, especially in the first 20 minutes of a game. Also bradley has problems with high pressured teams while Jones doesn't. Jones releases passes faster and more smoothly.

2 true wingers + 1 attacking MF + Jones > Bradley + Williams

IMO

Jones is better and will be better than Williams for the next world cup. Williams does not have the experience, size, nor ability that Jones has. They both play the same position and there is only room for one in the starting line up. After the next world cup Jones is probably out as the starter and Williams will have his shot. As for now though, Jones > Williams

Jones with a goal in UCL tonight.

I know all his flaws, but starting and scoring in the knockout round has to be enough to lock down his starting spot for the near future. That's just a whole 'nother level compared to anyone else on the team.

Here are the locks to start as of now:

Howard
Cameron
Fabian
Bradley
Jones
Dempsey
Altidore

? spots
RB, CB, MF, Winger/FWD

Like i said 3 months ago my final prediction is psg vs dortmund.. with dortmund being champs, wel sse if it happens... But regardless good game by jones.. usa should apply a 4-1-3-2..

jones and bradley are basically the same player - and 2 of the best 3 players we have:

1) dempsey
2) jones
3) bradley

this is one thing JK has right - put them next to each other.

but they dont need a #6 behind them, them need a CM with a little more finesse essentially between them, who can create in front of them but also cover when they go forward - as they both do effectively

I wouldnt mind seeing this except defense needs to be changed. Would have to have Chandler in there for Dolo and Cameroon for Boca. Could argue about Gonzo/Besler/Brooks for other CB spot. Also would prefer to see Boyd or Agudelo over Gomez for 2nd striker spot but at least this would give us 4 offensive players as oppossed to the 2 we normally deploy.

Has retired. Weston McKinnie reminds me of Jones and let's see if he brings that same attitude tonite that Jones brought so many times. We've missed it. Jones 2014 WC was brilliant and he was a big influence on the success of that team. Good player, for me just under Dooley as top Germerican of all time with Brooks at 3rd and climbing.
