Adding a piece of evidence to my speculation that Jones might be one of the problem players that no one would call out by name in the last 4 years:

I'm not quoting any one sentence here, but the picture as a whole.

Sports is a meritocracy. If mofo can play, then mofo gets paid. Who gives a dick if JJ is a dick.

Part of merit is being good for team chemistry on and off the field, and not bad for it.

Yeah, I'm not saying he should be shot. Just can be tough about the how/when to phase out. Anyone who has played a competitive sport after 35 understands what I'm talking about. Very possible JJ could still be playing in MLS 2 years from now. MCL ain't nothing. Had one of those at 31. Non-issue. I'd actually be shocked if he went from starter on USMNT to retired in less than a year.

And you guys know I don't give a shit about that he said, she said crap. That's for 13 year old girls. Sports is a meritocracy. If mofo can play, then mofo gets paid. Who gives a dick if JJ is a dick.

+++ 1000 spot on.

Oh, there's always going to be some friction.

But teams absolutely play better or worse depending on what kind of friction they're having, and how much.

This is non-controversial.

May I remind you we looked not-so-good for WCQs #1 and #2, this cycle.
In #2 we played like a bunch of whipped dogs.
That shit doesn't come from nowhere.

Because seven years ago he wasn't getting along with an unpopular coach and made a stupid comment to the media? No one here knows who those problem players were, or even if that was a reliable source or not. It's silly for us to think we can even do anything more than make completely random guesses about such matters.

What we do know is that Jones has been a really important leader on and off the field over his career with the nats, and in being a dual-national, that's especially important. If he can't accept coming off the bench, than of course he can't get callups, but I doubt that's the case. Moving to the Galaxy was a bad idea, and I doubt he'll be there in Russia, but his intensity and leadership will be sorely missed.

After watching the Galaxy last night plus the games since his injury, I feel safe to say JJ is done. While still in great shape for his age, father time is beginning to win that battle. The style he plays he clogs the field and no longer has the speed to clean up his mistakes.

To be fair I felt the same way about Dempsey yesterday. He was in the way more than he was a positive yesterday. No question regarding a call up for Clint, but should he start if everybody is healthy? I start him against T&T and then bring him off the bench for Mexico.

After watching Bradley for the past 2 yrs, I can honestly say he's a liability on the field and Acosta and Williams offer much more

With the Gold Cup over and the European Leagues starting back up I thought it would be a good time to revisit this topic, and see if there was anything like a consensus to who are best players may be:

Player/Rank based on where they stand as of right now, not where they may be when the WC rolls around.

Keeper: 1) Howard, 2) Guzan, 3) Horvath, 4) Hamid, 5) Gonzalez, 6) Steffen
RB: 1) Yedlin, 2) Fabian, 3) Chandler, 4) Lichaj, 5) Zusi
LB: 1) Fabian, 2) Villafana, 3) Garza, 4) Lichaj
CB: 1) Cameron, 2) Brooks, 3) Besler, 4) Gonzalez, 5) Miazga, 6) Birnbaum,
CM: 1a) Cameron, 1b) Bradley, 2) Acosta, 3) Williams, 4) Bedoya, 5) Morales
AM: 1) Pulisic, 2) Fabian, 3) Nagbe, 4) Arriola, 5) Zardes, 6) Rowe
F: 1) Jozy, 2) Wood, 3) Dempsey, 4) Morris, 5) Dwyer, 6) ArJo,

Just missed. These are players who could push into the ranks with a strong season:
1) Saief, 2) Gooch, 3) Green, 4) Boyd, 5) CCV, 6) McKennie, 7) Wright, 8) Payne

Hopefully Lletget is ready to roll by the end of the year.

I also hope Lima gets a January camp invite and shines. Back up to Yedlin is wide open. Chandler is history. Lichaj is just okay. He made more mistakes than I thought he would. Zusi's speed against WC level comp will bite us in the ass if he sees the field. Lima is a bulldog....he can get up field and his speed is nearly Yedlin level.

Hopefully Sargent is to forwards what Puli is to mids...Bruce needs to have him on the roster.

SJ is impressive right now. I like what's changed since the coaching change.

For club, perhaps. He's been average at best in all but a few of his 29 caps for the USMNT. Some players just play better for club than for country, or vice versa.

Why isn't the feeling

"Let's make this guy work for us"

Alejandro Bedoya, who I've appreciated for his work rate effort etc and creativity at times

has gotten 64 caps and we've BEEN had Lee Nguyen, Feilhaber as options.

We don't have options outside of Yedlin right now. And it's arguable that Chandler is a better option to begin with. (I think he's a better player, but I prefer Yedlin).

If Arena can work miracles with our team morale, surely he can get Chandler to "care".

I think Chandler will get called in. Especially now Yedlin is injured.

Would it be fair to say if Chandler doesn't get called in in Sept (assuming he's available), that Arena has passed on Chandler for good?
