Did everyone forget that Arena stated that he would be going with tested veteran's only for these two WCQ's? Arena flat out said he would be doing very little experimenting with the squad. He intends to bring in some younger players after we have secured the six points. I understand that Zusi's play has dropped off the last couple of years, having a savy vet to close out a game is a must. You don't want to send out a youngster with a chip on his shoulder to play the last 10 - 15 minutes. Zusi is an unspectacular but solid backup who can play multiple positions. People were so angry with Klinsmann for saying one thing and doing another. Now Arena is saying one thing and doing what he said he would do, and everyone is still angry!

Zusi is a rookie at playing RB. Zusi does have something to prove and learn in that position.

Balls, no FJ is a big hit. I guess the Legit discussion is more than theoretical now. He might start. What a disappointment - FJ was finally going to get to play mid. . .

@mmee RE:Rosenberry

I'm not sure it's a matter or rating Rosenberry that low as it is he's completely untested at the international level. This is all about the points and Zusi has been there/done that in WC Qualifying before.

Point taken, and I get it in theory. In actual practice between those two players, I don't know. It seems like Arena's bet here is that Rosenberry is more likely to commit a major error than Zusi. But then again, I don't really know Rosenberry.

I thought Zusi was replacing Fabian as a midfielder? I don't believe Arena has any intention of using him as a RB for these qualifiers.

Arena was a garbage choice. Total f-ing memberberry pie.... For all the Klinsmann haters and Arena lovers, he's continuing the process JK started. Except I don't see Arriola or Hyndman here, it also seems like he was forced by acosta to call him up, I don't see him as Bruce's preferred choice. If he plays the same "stale" midfield that Jürgen played, where is the progress and change? Most on here and in the stands grumbled at the copa America semifinal USA lineup vs Argentina (because it contained both Beckerman and Wondo) as a relic of the past. I'm sure @dave thought so. For me these are the perfect games to give the reins to Acosta, Lletget and others of the younger age group. If they can't cut it now, they won't in Russia. Furthermore, the younger players should be allowed to have a sense of ownership for this cycle and when they hopefully represent USA in the next World Cup. Michael Bradley, Bedoya, Jones are basically the new Beckerman and Wondolowski and shouldn't be allowed to have such an important role leading up to the World Cup. Or we will just see Arena lean on the vets in the WC when we get there like Jürgen did during the Copa A....

Ham, you make some very good points. However, Arena did clearly state that these two qualifiers were vital and he would not be bringing in a lot of untested players. In fact he stated that he didn't believe the roster would change much from the first two. He also said that he would be bringing in more youth for future qualifiers once we secure the (hopefully) six points. Everything else aside the players trust and believe in Arena, the players had lost faith in Klinsmann. I am not sure we could have brought in a better coach for the middle of a cycle. I am guessing the US have no intention of retaining Arena beyond 2018.

Wood out due to injury. In Sasha. Let's toss an MLS all star roster at them. That will show them.

What did we do to deserve this. Can we get any more unlucky!! I mean what's next are we gonna have 3 injuries in the first half vs Honduras and force to make 3 subs. Then finish the game with 8 players because of more injuries but we won't have no more subs.SMH

Sucks to lose Bobby and Fab but that still works for me. Or swap Kljestan for Acosta and play a 4-4-2. Either way we still have talent.
