"These same reporters would be well-advised to keep their microcassette recorders and iPhones at the ready at all times. Out of nowhere, Arena decided to discuss U.S. Soccer financials: "The federation itself has grown in leaps and bounds. When I started in November 1998 we were on the verge of bankruptcy-I'm not sure I'm allowed to say that, but we were. We can probably buy everybody a cup of coffee today and not have any problems."

The federation tho, is made up of soccer people that include the capitalists that make up the MLS or make up the financing that makes soccer in the US possible.

Whether it's right or wrong is not what I'm getting at.

I don't have any evidence to suggest that certain players get called in...for whatever reason

But that's something, it hits out at me, maybe more than it should.

Is there a video of Wood's injury? I am starting to wonder myself now...

Now we know why Besler was called in as Brooks was nearly not cleared due to a knee issue. With his history I am kind of surprised he is still coming.

The absolute worst is we don't qualify for WC and we get to see all the young guys right? AT the very least you HAVE to stop calling in the old guys.

I would like for this to happen, however, our U-23 cannot qualify for Olympics against CONCACAF U-23 teams, I shudder to think how they'll do against Senior teams.

What time period are you talking about? With 3.5 spots up for grabs in CONCACAF we are going to go into the September and probably October at least with some chance to qualify for the WC even if the games this month and in June go poorly.

We will qualify for 2018 and depending on the group we are drawn into, we will probably get to the round of 16 and sputter out there again. If getting out of the group is constantly our high-water mark then we are accomplished as a nation but if we want more we have to develop ore.

The problem is we still do not have the talent we should have at this point in our history. We still play a primitive style of football and regularly get dominated by countries much smaller in size. Until we get a total of 30-40 Woods, Pulisic, Morris, Acosta, Dempsey, Brooks, D. Williams, CCV, etc...type talents and rely on Zusi, Besler, Klejstan(sorry he is an average player at the international level), Bedoya, Bradley(who isn't what he once was in Europe), Nagbe(so unimpressed by this player yet some of you swear by him) types then we will always be a mediocre soccer country.

We knock Klinsmann but he really could not play the type of football he wanted to because of the players at his selection. Granted he did not help himself any by selecting players with limited talent like Gordon and Wondolowski regularly instead of taking chances on more unknown players. On the other hand, we cannot play a Spanish or Brazilian or German style with this type of talent because they did not grow up playing that style of football. All we know for know is route 1 football and playing our hearts out.

So regardless of who the coach is if we don't have the talent to play an attractive style of football then what we have accomplished to date will be our ceiling and the standard.

You can count me out on this one.

Klinsmann selected Gordon and Wondowski selected players based on the needs and talent available for task, Gordon for his skills in the air against Jamaican defenders.
Wondolowski, I guess was the only #9 we had for 2014 WC, we can always debate about "my spot is guaranteed for Brazil" Donovan...

I think above statement best describes why he selected Wondoloski and Gordon.

Arena is similar too then isn't he? I mean in light of the most recent call up. One of my favorites and the guy is in form, and he shouldn't play but you never know. Not far to make it to practice for him anyway.

I like Arena, the goal of these two games is get points between 4-6. I really don't care if the soccer is ugly as long as we get points. But to get points we need to as Arena said, score more than the other team. Not sure why Wondo keeps getting calls, Arriola while not tested plays in a better league than Wondo and has been in good form. I still think we will get points but man I hate seeing Wondo on a roster at this point...
Regarding the rest of the selections, while most of us would rather see different players, myself included, I think he is think of only these 2 games. Once we get the points this roster will be different. But the injuries also presents a different take on who to play in what games b.c someone is going to get a start whom has little exp. Whether is be Legit, Vill, acosta, to some extent SK. Would have been good to have had those players at least in camp more over the last 12 months

Beasley must have a good game vs Honduras. With either Nagbe, Bedoya, Lletget or Acosta ahead of him at left midfield, those players will tuck in and give space to the legend to get forward. Turn back the clock???

Pulisic should be out wide right providing width of a stay at home type RB (most likely Orozco). We know Jozy likes to play with a second forward and so with a 4-4-2, the choice of who to partner Bradley is a big one. That guy has to play well and not turn it over with a likely stacked Honduran midfield. It's also an audition for that player and that's why I'm hoping it's Acosta. A good game next to Bradley would probably earn him another start against Panama, and win while moving the team forward.

Lastly, this is a Wondo type game. Playing against a stacked box, his ability to find space in said box would be important. Don't think he'll play but it's an option I prefer to klestjan for example.

So US Soccer and Arena are trying to prove it was 100% on Jurgen why we struggled right? That has to be the only reason for Arena to call in essentially what was termed a garbage roster when Jurgen called in the same players. I know the fullback injuries hurt so I'll cut him slack there and have no issue with Ream and Zusi (cant complain about 5th & 6th choice fullbacks). But the rest is just wow.

Oh this is a Klinsmann roster through and through. If these are the guys Arena is putting his faith in I honestly think we might have some trouble with Honduras.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, ladies and gentlemen, but Michael Orozco will start for the US men's national team in Jacksonville.
