I think we might see something like this:

Morris-Dwyer
Saief-Acosta-McCarty-Arriola
Villafana- Gonzo-Miazga - Lichaj
Guzan

Guzan as captain.

I see a 4-4-2 (seems to be the lineup when we play as favorites).
Possibly see Agudelo for Morris at some point and maybe Rolden/McCarty/Corona rotate games or at least get fairly equal looks the first few games (including friendlies)

This lineup looks great on paper. I'd feel very comfortable about our chances if this is the direction that Bruce went in. Assuming we handle business, and it shouldn't really even need to be an assumption, we should see some of the other guys get a shot in the final group stage game (hopefully).

Morris isn't that good, guys.
He's a very incomplete player who's very fast.
He's like a sequel to Robbie Findley.

I don't disagree, but he is the forward on the roster who has the most recent caps. So unless he plays his way out of it or one of the others really steps up and gets noticed, it looks likely he will be the starter.

That's why Bruce (from family guy) should've called up:

* Christian Ramirez
* Aron Johannsson
* Terrence Boyd

It's way to early in his career to make any such determination. I believe he scored around 14 goals in his rookie year which is respectable. This year is not over yet. The reason he is on the Gold Cup roster is to help make this determination. Some players have the ability to elevate their game when they play internationally, perhaps Morris is one of those. He was good for Seattle during the playoffs last year so I am hoping that is how he will play during the gold cup.

Morris has definitely hit a snag in his career. I hope he has a good Gold Cup. But if I am starting two FWDs I wouldn't pencil Morris in. For me it should be Dwyer and Agudelo. Morris off the bench.

I think Bruce will play a formation based off of opponents.

Two guys who couldn't get off the bench for bottom feeder Bundesliga teams (both of whom desperately needed goal scoring help), and another who is in his first year of MLS?

There is no reason that all of our forwards should not start at least one group game.

Also Morris has been dealing with a significant ankle injury all year. I am guessing this is partly to blame for his lack of production so far. According to the Sounders staff this week is the first week he has been able to go 100% in practice.

MLS is probably the worst league on the planet. I stopped watching it after the consecutive FAILURE of losing in the CCL

I'm making the determination only about him right now.
Right now, he's a very incomplete player compared to other forwards we have, some of whom were not even called up.

'Good in MLS or other mediocre league' does not automatically mean 'good for international'.

I am actually very disappointed with Arena's squad. The #1 thing I wanted was one of our young goalkeepers with high potential to make the side and play atleast the Martinique game. Horvath needs to try to get the Brugge spot in preseason, that makes sense. Steffen should have atleast made the 40 if not the 23 man squad. And Jesse Gonzalez the one I'm most disappointed with, he made the 40 and didn't end up making the 23 man squad. Also, if Arena was going to go a veteran goalkeeper to win the tougher games of the tournament, why not Howard rather than Guzan? As for Sean Johnson and Bill Hamid, I would've elected to have either make it, but not both. I wish we went Howard, Johnson, and Gonzalez, but oh well. As for the defense, meh, I would've liked to have seen either (or both) of our U-20 WC centerbacks, but it's fine. Midfield, only change I'd make is Nagbe/McNamara/Kljestan rather than Bedoya, but besides that, I like it. Forwards, agree with all choices. My lineup goes like:

GK Guzan (Panama/Knockouts)/S.Johnson and/or Hamid (Ghana/Martinique/Nicaragua)
LCB Besler CB Miazga RCB Hedges
LWB Villafana RWB Lichaj
CDM Acosta
LM Saief RM Arriola
CF Dwyer Agudelo

Main Subs being Morris, Zardes, and I guess Omar Gonzalez.

Gonzalez didnt get his one time only switch approved by FIFA. They pretty much said he would have been on the team but FIFA paperwork didnt make it in time (supposedly Sayef filed back in March unbeknownst to anyone).

Id pick Guzan over Howard. Howard is older and could use the rest more. Especially in the group stages Howard playing 1-2 MLS games is better than playing Martinique and Guatemala. Maybe its already been decided that Howard comes in for the knockout round so both him and Guzan get 3 games each, only half the time commitment

No chance these guys should have been on the roster:

Aron - Injured most of the last two years. Almost no games over that span. Needs to find a new club this summer. Wait until after the Gold Cup and he could be looking at another lost year.

Boyd - Injured the last few months of the season. Likely not in form enough to play 3 games in one week. May not even be in form to play 90'. Could have been a late game sub but why bring in someone with limitations?

Ramirez - a 26 year old who was in NASL last year. Dont need another Ibarra. If he shows this form is sustainable (doubtful) and not just a flash in the pan (he scored like 5 of his goals in a 3 game stretch) then bring him in jan camp. Hes older than Agudelo

15 league club appearances over 2 years (Aron) and 14 over 3 (Boyd). Their priority should be working on getting back to form and earning minutes at club, over playing in a secondary Gold Cup.
