dolcem, you lost me by assuming the kids who would be picked in this hypothetical have attitude problems just because they're young. Attitude, experience and spirit in camp are important, I agree. One of the reasons I defended DMB's inclusion in the current 27. But no one is talking about picking a young player with known attitude problems. The argument is a promising, sufficiently mature younger player v. a more experienced but fringe player whose ceiling and ability to contribute to the national team is already known. It's gaining a tangential benefit of player advancement through national team presence when other factors are roughly equal. The national team is not for player development, but it's also not a participation trophy or lifetime achievement award.

I'm not saying the kids have attitude problems. It's that they haven't spent years fighting in the trenches, getting by on heart alone, like guys like Wondo and Gordon. There's a reason the coaches pick some of these MLS players we complain about. They see them every day in training, and know that their drive and work ethic is second to none. If a young kid has proved himself to be like that, sure let him play, but let's not just play kids because they're young. The last message we want to send to the players is that talent is what you gets you call-ups. The message is supposed to be that the hard-workers will be rewarded, no matter how good they are. This is what you want your players to believe in. The kids' clubs are responsible for their development. These MLS veterans are better guys to have in a locker room. Some day, some of those kids will be there, but until that day, let them wait.

I like how Bruce is announcing a 40 man roster in a few minutes to give us something to debate for the next month.

Although, I am slightly anticipating to see Jeff Parke's name on the list.

Or for kick's I'll go with a Jeff Parke equivalent that is still playing and is just as random: Michael Harrington.

List of Defenders looks good, a nice mix of vets that are fighting for a place and youngsters. I am really pleased to see Lichaj on the list.

At this point I think they are even. Steffens had looked good and Gonzalez has looked good for Dallas this season.

I don't see what Bradley, Bedoya, Dempsey and Altidore gives us. We know what they can do.

A nice mix of youth and veterans. Still question some of the inclusions....Wondo, Zusi, Spector, etc... And some shock omission of players who've not been in a camp under Arena yet....Williams, Morales,

Still should be able to select an interesting 23 from this group. Hope that Arena actually gives some of the younger players some real minutes.

Williams may be moving to a new club, if that's the case I am fine with him being left out. Hyndman is competing for minutes at Bournemouth and he too needs to focus on securing his club future first.

I wouldn't mind seeing Spector make this team. I haven't watched a ton of Orlando but he single handedly saved a goal on a wide open net when DC United were in town last week.

He's also recovering from injury but it sounds like he should be ready for Bournemouth's pre-season.

It's unfortunate, but my main USMNT memories of Spector are a) him getting concussed right before we scored to beat Mexico in Gold Cup 2007 (I've watched that goal so many times that him looking totally out of it is one of my main memories of him with the USMNT) and b) him being so horribly out of form and confidence right before the 2010 World Cup that we didn't dare play him in the tournament (played a not fully fit Onyewu over him even). I do remember he played well in that upset friendly win in Italy in 2012.
