The qualifiers and the Gold Cup are a month apart however I don't believe Bruce will call on a lot of vets especially ones who play in Europe. I could be totally wrong but asking Yedlin, Brooks, Fabian, Wood etc to play the June qualifiers then ask them to stay in the States with no vacation is crazy.

I agree that anyone in the U20 world cup or Qualifiers in June should not be chosen for the Gold Cup (exception would be reserve guys like Arriola, Zimmerman, Hyndman if called in June).

The MLS/MX fringe guys can be brought in for double duty but it seems like every time we have a Euro guy stay for the meaningless gold cup he gets punished and doesnt break camp as a starter.

This would be my new 24 man Gold Cup team with only a few holdovers from the WCQ roster.

GK: Steffen, Hamid, Guzan

Defense: Chandler(now that he is missing the qualifiers), Evans, Hedges, Birnbaum, Opara, Miazga, Vincent, Garza

Midfield: Corona, McCarty, Williams, Hyndman, Manneh, Shea, Mckinnie, Ibarra

FWDS: Agudelo, Dwyer, Sapong, Morris, Ramirez

I say why not call up Mckinnie. Let's give him some experience,

I would not count on Chandler. A right back back can become an area of concern. Cannot trust Chandler to want to be here, just leave him in Germany. While Zusi is having a nice season, he is also not a long term solution. Payne has not been consistent at all. Who can slide into that role to push Yedlin?

On the topic of giving a young player experience, how about Josh Sargent? He doesn't have a club and won't turn 18 until February when he can sign in Germany. That in itself doesn't warrant a national team call up but he's looked darn good with the U20s and U17s.

I'm not necessarily advocating that he play much but I think giving him a few weeks with Bruce and the National Team set up would be a wise long term investment.

Any way I hope that the Gold Cup will finally be Hamid's International Break Out party.

I'd like to see Roldan.

I'd bring in Lima for a look at RB....very strong and balanced...he has really good pace and a sound overall game...very solid on the overlap.

Would love to see Sapong, Ramirez and Dwyer If Sapong could stay focused for 90 min he'd be devastating.

Dwyer/Ramirez could be a great match up top.

Id like to see Horvath given the #1 role for this tourney and see how he does. Brugge obviously already likes him so missing preseason wont be a problem for him

Arena made a comment that Horvath was called up for the WCQs because he won't be available for the Gold Cup and they wanted to take a look at him.

i got shouted down for suggesting this a week or two ago. Sargent should be called up but especially as Bruce isn't bringing Europe based players he just said.

Do we care about people not being professionals?

I honestly don't. But I fear sometimes the premise is that anyone selected should be based on club form primarily and with lesser regards to actual innate intrinsic qualities.

I'd much rather take a kid who has promise and doesn't have a club situation to worry about than a veteran whose ceiling we already know. In 2009, after a Confed Cup we played in, we took guys like Troy Perkins, Logan Pause, Jay Heaps, Colin Clark, Sam Cronin, Santino Quaranta and Davy Arnaud to the Gold Cup. All fringe, established guys, none of whom contributed much to the national team after that. 2013 we took Corey Ashe, Tony Beltran, Alan Gordon, etc., same deal. We also took Jack McInerney, at least for the group stage, a young player who we thought had promise, and we didn't play him. I don't see taking Sargent as an issue at all, I'd absolutely do it, just to have him in camp exposed to a senior team atmosphere. We can always replace him with a veteran for the knockout stage.

I think for your hypothetical argument about the GC roster and what it might get you for 2018, you want to compare Sargent with Sapong, no?

Also, Hamid crapped the bed the other day.
