I still don't quite understand Klinsmann and why he didn't transition to a team that possibly wouldn't have played better, but at least fit the vision of what he declared.

I think he had an idea of what he wanted, but I think he didn't know how to execute it.

Especially given the personnel.

Everyone talks about world cup being a failure, ghana scared the living beejesus out of Germany, like I was watching it on espn 3 and i was like.. Germany really doesn't want it with them.

They got baited into an open game with them and they almost paid for it, imagine if Ghana beats Germany? We would have been in first place..

i think...

Exactly!!
We were downright nasty and didnt play scared.

He was always fighting against the clueless press and MLS lackeys, quite a bit of resistance.

Well, we didn't play scared, we didn't play "well" especially against Belgium, but I mean those games are tough.

I mean an honest assessment, and I know this is a privileged biased reasoning, but from my perspective, is that we were on a good path, but he like everyone agrees to, made some head scratchers, but me personally I don't think any of them were tactical. I think the 5 3 2 made sense, I don't think Jones was going to be starting CB in Russia, but if he were to have made an impact, we needed to get younger in MF, and having him mold the position for the CB to come (CCV, or even Brooks really as he wasn't a permanent starter).

I just don't understand why he kept making certain selections, he's done being judged, he's paid his price, he's over with as a manager. I just want to hear from his mouth, why he thought Beckerman and Bradley were a good idea against Argentina. Or against the Paraguay game when in the dying moments we were down goals, down a man, needed someone to cover space, needed someone with speed, someone like Nagbe who's athletic but not careless, why he choose Beckerman instead. Wondo, is fine it was imderstandable, but it was clearly wrong. It didn't wind up working out.

Def don't understand the SK snub for so long, rain was right, and then when Nagbe got on board, choose SK out of nowhere over Nagbe and put him in the STARTING lineup, lol. I mean these are gripes that are consistent where we were.. where we are. We had good displays good performances, but then some bad ones.

....And Arena will do the same... I remember Wynalda complaining that he was in love with McBride, instead of calling up Twellman/putting Dempsey in the forwards spot/ etc. If we don't win the world cup, the gold cup, everyone is going to have gripes. It's just how it is.

I think the SK snub had more to do with personnel. My hunch is that he felt that Dempsey and SK would get in each others way. I don't think it is a coincidence that SK's call ups have coincided with Dempsey being unavailable.

SK never seemed to fit into the USMNT until Klinnsmann switched to the 4-3-3 system. His best games have been against Cuba and New Zealand, that is Wondo like work there. SK is a nice depth guy at the end of the game. In a 4-4-2 set up and you have Jones, Bradley, and Beckerman who would he have replaced in the starting line up. I hope we see the Bruce of 2002 that took a risk with Beasley, Donovan, and a young group over vets. But I expect a very veteran group in March to get 6 points.

The last thing I want is anyone taking risks. Until/unless we get the the WC. We come out like fucking bosses against panama, Honduras, and t&t. And cr at home. No need to take risks to win the rest of the home games and take points in every road game.

I agree the goal is to gain points and to do so, realistically, we don't need to change to much to get good results against our upcoming opponents. but we do need to integrate some new players into the team in Jan and see how they would do.

ie Benny, and Eric L, maybe some mLs left backs, hedges, get a couple options to potentially fill in for bradley, don't laugh but give Dax a run.

For me bradley is great b.c of his mentality, but his play lately leaves alot to be desired, I watched the game last night, he had alot of passes to know where.

Jozy, well he was jozy, had a cple good plays but for the most part he was handled by Chad Marshall-in fact I would like to see chad get the call instead of omar or orazco.

So we can keep the core of the team in tact and get points without drastic changes, We do need to include some new faces in the Jan camp. I am not saying they need to play in march but some newbies should be called into jan

Dax has been solid to real nice, and he has built in chemistry with Sasha. IF Arena is serious to give Sasha a shot, because he needs a better passer as he calls it, then maybe he doesn't have to take away Bradley, can fit him next to him.

But going back with what The Truth said, that would represent a real riskier setup. If you don't take into stock Bradley's and Jones's form of late, it's more conservative to stay with our group of guys and introduce 1 new piece. Instead of just revamping the whole midfield.

I guess my questions are, how far can this go?

Can it get so bad that Arena would get fired, or is this a regardless of how bad we are doing, we're riding this out?

Can it get so bad with Arena that we change our personnel?

Achilles injuries are tricky @rey, there are no guarantees.

@mmee- I'm sorry was what I said not clear? He's already been coach, and wasn't good enough then. Good for him he landed on his feet since, twice now in fact. Yes, the fact is Gulati needs to go. I posted as much when we were speculating on what could happen. Sunil had 3-5 years to research candidates for if/when Jürgen was fired (or indeed if Jürgen had taken another job amongst many he was offered), to have a real shortlist ready. That's his job. Similar to how Jürgen was waiting in the wings to take over previously. So for all his "connections" and behind the scenes "work"- we get a retread. A successful retread, but a retread nonetheless. I meant it when I said it before, Bruce is a fine choice, and a good coach, but for Sunil Gulati to have this be the rabbit in the hat is a total joke.

Rey,

I agree with not a lot of changes in the qualifiers, at this point, as I mentioned before, I think we could us the same lineup we used with CR, and with some specific direction on positioning and expectations from Arena, we will get points and put us right back on track to qualify.

What I am saying, is the January camp needs to include new faces so that we can evaluate after march who maybe able to break into the team.

We need to give the new faces run in friendlies to see who can potentially fill in for or replace, bradley, jones, who left back will be, if we move cameron up to holding mid we would need a rc.b etc

thats all just pointing out we need to try new players in friendlies and jan Not necessarily in qualifiers
