I think that is a fair view of Bruce. Look at the talent he let loose at the Galaxy because he did not trust youth. He let Arriola and the Wright brothers leave. He incorporated Zardes but that was out of necessity more than opportunity.

I hope to God that Arena brings Torres back into the fold (as a CM, not as a LM, CAM, or LB). Then at least one good thing will have come out of this.

If we don't get lucky with the draw though I highly doubt we're getting out of the group stage. Arena is in way over his head at the international level. 2002 was absolutely incredible but it was a fluke (it was a crazy tournament partially because it started a couple weeks early and the European players had no rest, and this gave the US a big advantage because our underestimated MLS players were in mid-season form). In 2006 we looked completely clueless tactically. The players fought to the death, as they usually do when playing for the stars and stripes, but they had absolutely no idea how to play against top-tier opposition. I have no doubt Arena will see the new coach bump and qualify for the WC with ease but my expectations for Russia are exceedingly low.

It didn't seem the players were fighting to death with JK. If anything, they seemed dead already. We have looked completely clueless tactically with JK also. In that sense, with JK would have not even qualified to the World Cup. Now the excuse that Bruce go lucky with the US was because they had more rest and were in form? Wow.

JK was completely clueless we looked like a bunch of kids running around in the park. At least Bruce knows an Identity something JK couldn't figure out in 5 years.. And yes i don't think we would of qualified if he stayed he had lost the team completely so glad he is gone.

Grant Wahl has a new interview with Bruce in his latest podcast.

Bruce said that Feilhaber will get a look in January and a few other guys will probably play their way into the team over the next few months but that there won't be drastic changes to the player pool.

I think Arena will be OK for the meanwhile.. But idk why Greg Vanney isn't getting any credit or consideration as a future coach he can deal with Egos and youngsters. He has changed TFC completely around.

Because there isn't anything inherently tactical like in Dallas's case that makes you go, wow.

Giovinco has been the greatest player ever in the MLS. Why doesn't anyone say that consistently?

He doesn't even get MVP consideration this year. lol

Seriously, Bradley Altidore Giovinco, plus the remains of solid European players like Cheyrou, they should have been winning for awhile now.

IMO drastic changes in the player pool aren't really needed in order to qualify for the WC. We have decent players....and shouldn't have a problem with the other teams in the HEX as long as we can develop the necessary chemistry, have a functional formation, and strategy.

However, there are some changes that are going to be needed if we're hoping to make a good showing at the WC. We cannot rely on players like Jones, Dempsey, & Howard forever. And we should be looking for improvements over players like Zusi, Bedoya, Kljestan, etc... As I said before the concern I have w/ Bruce is that he likes to hold onto players too long.

Dave, I think Arena learned his lesson about sticking with players too long at the 2006 WC...I'm not worried about that...I think he's excited to include guys like Wood and Pulisic.

FEilhaber was in HAmburg youth and broke through after world cup. Arena didn't call him up. I mean that's practical, but needless to say he's probably not going to get too excited about someone who's not broken through professional ranks yet. Julian Green, Perez, Zelalem, CCV etc.

I looked that up because of the comment on Arean and learning lesson. THe harsh reality is, that team too, didn't have transitional players outside of Donovan, Beasley, Gooch etc who were actually ready. Beckerman, Klesjtans etc should have been on that team, but didn't acquit themselves properly enough to warrant attention from Bruce.

I thought the same until I saw the Galaxy off-season last year. Bruce was and seems to remain a coach who has greater confidence in age/experience than he does in youthful energy.

I think he's going to be a good coach for one cycle, and then we'll see some of the trends you're concerned with (preferring age/experience over youth). Coming in he's aware he's got to make some changes and establish an identity. I think we'll like what we see right up through Russia, then after that it'll fall apart, which I'm fine with.

Guys, the Galaxy were one of the best teams in the league this year. They were decimated by injuries. No other team had anywhere near the number of injuries. And when you say, they're old so you need to expect injuries - that is true, but the logic doesn't really explain the Galaxy this year.

Would you have seriously dropped Keane before the start of the season? Is he done? Maybe. I wouldn't be shocked if he scores 10 goals next year.
Van Damme was awesome.
Ashely Cole was awesome.
Gio was great.
De Jong was pretty good. Not a big fan since he's such a liability w/ the red cards.
Yeah, Gerrard was a bust. Oh well, you win some you lose some.
Zardes missed the last 10 games.
Legit missed a bunch of games too.

Not seeing how Bruce didn't do a good job this year. I'd say the Indian dwarf clearly agreed, but we know the dwarf doesn't know his dick from a hole in the ground.

Where did he screw up? OK, live and learn w/ Gerrard and Keane - they're gone. What else would you do, brain surgeons?
They'll be one of the best teams in the league again next year. All they need is a decent goalie.

During the last off-season Bruce also brought in a number of older players through free agency who were average at best....Gordon, Magee, Larentowicz, etc... When a coach/gm focuses completely on aging vets it leaves itself open for the wealth of injuries. A team needs to have a balance of youth and veteran experience. Bruce limited his focus to the vets at the team suffered for it. I just hope he doesn't do the same with the USMNT.
