It's very troubling to me there is no thread for this game. There have been a few random comments on the other thread here and there, but for the most part, no fans, media or anyone outside of the USMNT circle is focusing on this game at all. Pretty sure Jürgen and co. are not making the same but still, it's a massive game, especially if we don't get the desired result against the Mexicans in game 1 of the Hex.

The fact is our lowly away record in San Jose, Costa Rica (0-5-0) needs to change. The Ticos have a well organized squad and star players who give us trouble. I remember Bob Bradley trying a 4-3-3 with Torres out there and Beasley at LB that got smoked. We all know what a diver Joel Campbell is. Similar to the Mexico game, a draw isn't the worst thing in the world.

Right, this is what I'm thinking, the Mexico game has garnered all the attention (which also, doesn't feel like alot, like contrast that with the Gold Cup Final)

But THIS game is much bigger indicator of where we are. We have the same test, again, another four years, can we go into Costa Rica and not get our teeth knocked in?

Just hope they understand the game situation. Costa Rica is going do everything in their power to screw us over.

It didn't help 3 years ago that we lost Bradley right before kickoff. Still no one on the team realized CR was gonna do crazy shit to get the team off its game. They wanted revenge from the snow game.

Plus Joel Campbell tried his hardest to get Matt Besler suspended.

I doubt we win at Costa Rica a tie at best. Mexico has a better chance to win in Columbus than we do in CR. That's why is a must win vs mexico so we won't go into Costa Rica with more pressure to get a result. The same goes for Mexico because they have to go at Panama after the USA game and that is no easy task so they are treating this game like a must win also. Should be a great competitive game no doubt.

Yeah, we should definitely not even be thinking about Mexico. Always look ahead. Never look at the next game. Shit, Juergy and his staff probably don't even know there's another game next week.

Im already starting xpectongbthat to be a loss. Hence why you focus on the home game. You always focus on the home games during the HEX.

That is kinda funny when you say it like that, =D but no that's not what I meant.

What I meant is, if we clobber Mexico 4 - 0, well actually if we clobber, like truly clobber, like they have absolutely NO highlights, forget possession stats, cause that makes everyone mad. If Mexico's only highlight of the game is Chicharito making a phone call to Dues pater, then I will say, forget the CR game, a point there would have been heaven sent, we made it guys.

If we win by 2-0, with the obligatory Howard department of defense performance absolutely wreck CR's place like we were Led Zeppelin on tour, then I would be MUCH happier.

If we par course Columbus, which I guess many of you feel, and we force CR to eat our poo poo, we're better than 4 years ago.

2 points after these 2 games is mediocre. 3 points is pretty good. 4 points is great. 6 points is phenomenal.

1 point, 2 points is bad, but no cause for panic. And since Mehico & CR are favorites to go through it's not a disaster if we give them both 3 points. Giving 3 points to, say, Honduras is bad.

My only prediction is my standard one - multiple people in these forums will piss their pants and overreact (good or bad) based on 1 or 2 data points.

Costa Rica is a good team, but they are not the same team as they were in the 14 WC. They've got some star type players....Ruiz, Campbell, Navas, etc...but they haven't been playing the same. Navas will make them difficult to score against, and Ruiz & Campbell are dangerous in the attack....but for the most part we match up fairly favorably.

As long as we don't do anything stupid we have a good chance of leaving with a positive result.

IF we get slaughtered in Costa Rica, it's not a panic situation, it's just par for course right? Or is it?

Giving up 3 to CR still isn't a disaster, but definitely puts us in a hole. The 4th spot will play some shitball team from Asia. It would be quite a feat to not qualify this time around. Even if we suck in qualifying, 1 1/2 years to Russia is still a long way away - biggest Q today about where we will be then is central midfield. Jones will continue the (hopefully slow) decline. And just thinking about all of Bradley's performances for USMNT in the last 2 years - he's really sucked. And he's such a guy that you pull for.

That shit ball team from Asia would probably be Japan right now and that's no gimme. A win in this game from Costa Rica would put us behind the 8 ball to start the Hex. Need at least a point, but looking at it a win is what we all want to see. Road teams are hot let's continue the trend.

Lletget needs his shot in CM. He was so good for LA. I favor him over nagbe now. He has great passing range. Good control. Hustles and has creativity. Might not be really fast, but he is not slow. He has great distribution too.

Costa Rica has some injury issues. Ruiz was subbed out as well as Calvo, But Costa Rica looked more dangerous when they subbed on Campbell.

Have to go with a 4-4-2 in this game. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Green at some point in this game.
