It's looking like all 4 young guys that we still don't know where they'll end up have had some recent news to hint their situations.

CCV- looking likely he'll begin the season as the 4th CB/3rd cdm for Spurs. Pretty impressive for an 18 yr old. Hopefully he gets enough game time to stay sharp and continue to grow.

Yedlin- looks guaranteed he'll be sent out on loan. Was dropped from their friendly roster so that doesn't bode well for him. He was getting some looks as a lb so maybe they are finding a loan team that will use him as such.

Miazga - like yedlin this week became clear he will be going out on loan. Conte pretty much said he isn't ready for Chelsea and has been used sparingly in friendlys. Hopefully he gets a good situation. I don't have a good feeling for him this year (see green at Hamburg)

Zelalam- most people thought a loan was a sure thing but he keeps impressing wenger. Still with the 1st team preseason even as they get their stars back from euro break. Will be interesting to see if he sticks. Definitely a better chance now than 4 weeks ago.

Yedlin, Miazga, & Zelalem are of an age where they need to be playing in order to keep their development moving forward. All 3 of them are to far down the depth chart to realistically obtain the playing time needed at their current clubs. There is no question that they need to go out on loan for at least the first 6 months of the season. I expect each will find a decent landing spot in either the lower half of the BPL or top half of the Championship. A mid table team Germany would also be an option for Yedlin & Miazga.

CCV is in an age & place where a loan move isn't necessary. He'll get get a fair amount of playing time between cup competitions, UEFA/Europa, and spot action during the season.

@msantoine- though Miazga won't play for Chelsea, that club is known for loaning out players to places they will play and either retain, or raise their value. Miazga won't be neglected like Green was in your example.

Dave, I understand your point about depth charts but from on the age side of things Zelalem and CCV are really at the same points of their careers. They were both born in 1997 but Zelalem is 11 months older. I don't see that as a differentiator.

skangles, CCV & Zelalem may be roughly the same age, but their positions tend to reach their prime at different ages. Generally CBs reach their full potential a bit later in their careers (28ish) where as CMs tend to come of age around their mid 20's (25ish). IMO this, combined with their teams depth chart, are the difference in their situations. Both are quality prospects, but CB usually is given more time to mature & prove themselves than CMs are. This is why I advocate a loan for Zelalem this season while CCV could easily remain with his club.

It's easy to say a loan is in their best interest of they aren't going to be in the regular rotation. However loans for young players are often tricky. If your a kid table championship team or worse you have zero incentive to play him. It's not helpful if he develops unless it's a loan to buy deal. Zelalems Liam worked because he made rangers better. Miazga won't immediately be better at many teams, especially with the season now starting and not having any preseason with a potential new club.

Publicly Conte has said he likes his makeup but he needs more game time to improve his tactical awareness. Troubling, though, is zero minutes in the pre-season so far outside of a closed door scrimmage against a local Austrian team. He was not included in the 23 traveling to play Bremen tomorrow in Germany.

A loan is likely, but I am not 100% convinced they will just loan him at this time. They will certainly be buying a top notch defender before the window closes. Right now the depth chart at Chelsea is something like:

Terry, Zouma (when healthy), Cahill, Ivanovic, Hector, Miazga, Tomori, Salter.

Whoever they buy goes to the top of that list.

Next year it will be harder even though Terry and Ivanovic will be gone. Kalas and Christensen will presumably be back from loans and Tomori and Salter will have had another year of developmental football. So even though two defenders will have left, he will not have made any movement up the ladder.

My guess is they will loan him out to one of the teams that was interested in him with the intent to sell.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays another epl game for Chelsea.
