Reports coming out that USSF has scheduled a friendly against Cuba on Oct. 7th.
Since this falls on a FIFA Date I'm hoping that we'll take the opportunity to give some of the newer players some significant minutes.

Will be interesting to see the roster selection. This is after the WCQ round we are in and before the hex. So no need to bring in A squad. Its also likely going to occur in MLS season where teams have 2-3 matches left so you'd think teams not eliminated for playoffs, or jockeying for the first bye would prefer not to send there guys.

Could be a mostly young Euro squad. Could be a chacne for guys like Rubin, Boyd, Aron, Hyndman to get some minutes and see what they can do

Since it falls on a FIFA date teams are required to release players unless they are injured. Hopefully JK won't call up a bunch of old guys (Beckerman, Wondo, Orozco, Jones, Dempsey) but will instead use this opportunity to look at a number of younger and/or fringe players (Villafana, Nagbe, Lleget, Menneh, Rubin, Arriola, Hyndman, Miazga, etc....). This would be a chance to see where these players are in the pecking order as compared to some of those who made the Copa Squad (Birnbaum, Castillo, etc....).
Cuba isn't too different than PR so the young guys should be able to handle it.

Houston and Colorado are the only ones that have a game during that international break.

Pfeffer and Serna are the only young players on either roster that would come close to getting call up. So even if USSF was friendly to those teams and didn't call any up you are really only talking about those 2 and Howard/Jones.

Personally we will be fine without calling Any of the 4.

I'm sure we will probably have 1 more friendly that break too. No official matches. Will probably be a roster full of young players. Maybe 2-3 Veterans that are there for "diplomatic" reasons.

Yes if push comes to shove the team has to release the player but as we just saw with the Copa (supposedly Seattle pleaded to not lose Morris AND Dempsey with Valdez also gone) USSF tries to work with MLS teams at times so it wouldnt surprise me if a team fighting for the playoffs has a game right around then asks to not be released.

There is a major difference between being released for a tournament taking place during the season and being released for a 1 week FIFA window. Prep for the Copa began May 23rd and at a minimum was going to extend till June 11th (3 weeks) and represents 5 matches (2 friendlies + 3 group matches). Even with MLS taking a 2 week brake that it did the COPA was going to represented a lot of ware on the players. The fact that we advanced as far as we did added 2 more weeks to their absence & 3 more games of ware. Thats a lot of time away from a team in the middle of their season.
Compare that with releasing players for a 7-10 day FIFA window and there is no comparison.
