2 things. First, Howard is in decline. He has work to do (even in MLS) to prove that he still belongs. I am VERY biased as a DCU fan but man, Bill Hamid specializes in making extraordinary saves look routine. He's a major reason DC has had as much success as they have. As it stands right now, there's no way we dont look like 1) Guzan 2) Hamid 3) Horvath/Steffen

Secondarily, CJ is a solid target forward. He aint Jozy, but he offers many of those same qualities. And two of the players listed at CM (Ale, Nagbe) can play wide too.

At the end of the day though, you're right Matt Doyle is partial to MLS (and very anti-Klinsmann) so I do believe it's important to keep that in mind when discussing his projections/opinions.

You can like Hamid all you want. But Jurgen has pretty clearly set a goal keeping depth chart.

Guzan is clearly #1. Barring injury or not being a starter he's the #1 through Russia.
Howard is currently the #2. In 2016/17 if Guzan isnt a starter I have no doubt that Howard starts all qualifiers. I think that there's a 95% chance Guzan or Howard start every qualifier through 2017.

Horvath- Seems to have taken a hold of the preferred #3, young goalie. Last cycle this rotated between Hamid & Johnson. Neither really stepped up. Its likely Horvaths role any time he gets released from Molde.

The rest- Once Howard is finally moved on it seems that JK has settled on Bingham and Yarborough as his top two North America goalies. Whether those two are ebtter than Hamid & Johnson is a different argument. I think you could almost argue that Robles is ahead of Hamid/Johnson too, but I think he blew his one chance to make that step up. Steffen is also knocking on the door to this group, as is Cropper.

The Jurgen Klinsman goalie depth chart:

Guzan, Howard, Horvath, Bingham, Yarborough, Hamid, Steffen, Johnson, Cropper

Hamid was injured though so there's actually no way to know what Jurgens preferred depth chart at GK looks like with him heatlthy. He has been the best keeper in MLS since he's been back. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a chance to get back in the picture.

Ok so I was watching the New York(s) game and thought it would be cool to try out Sasha again. I'll admit I never was a Sasha fan at all. And this is a klinsmann free zone. This is pure conjecture. Thoughts? I'm not a fan of Bradley at the moment... Lol of course being American that might change.

F Johnson wood. Lletget
Nagbe. Klejstan bedoya
Villafana. Yedlin
Brooks Cameron
Guzan

Howard
Rogers
Chandler
Besler
Gonzalez
Williams
Bradley
Jones
Pulisic
Kieswetter
Morris
Dempsey

Gyau didn't make it bc I don't know how well he is recovering. I know he is training but no need to rush. Kieswetter doesn't make a starter bc he isn't playing. Otherwise he'd get the start over lletget.
I realize I don't have a true number 6 in the roster. I figured we try to play a three way pivot. All three starters have a good defensive work rate. And all three love to attack. So a good balance I thought.
I would love to see more youth but I am thinking this is a qualifier. So I'd still bring in Howard jones and Dempsey as leaders. Besides those are the only old guys that show me they can still play.
The roster still gives me options to switch formation and try different stuff out
Thoughts?

Would go Zardes over Lleget. Like Zardes speed and unrelenting work. Yeah bad first touch, but his speed, verstality, and ability to do dirty work makes me want him on the pitch.

Zardes, maybe a Paul Arriola to get a look out wide where you have Lletget who has not earned a national team callup yet. And if you've got Sasha as the centerpiece with Nagbe and Bedoya that's a little too much offense. People went crazy with Bedoya as holding mid and that's what would happen in your scheme. Kitchen or Williams should play instead of Nagbe or Bedoya.

I think it is time to phase out Bedoya. He will be in the above 30 roup soon. Good bench guy in future perhaps not a starter

Williams is not a number 6. At all. He plays box to box as an 8.

The lack of a number 6 is something I struggled when I made this line up. Bradley is on my hate list at the moment. Doesn't show up for the games that matter. And besides kitchen's time at dc I haven't seen enough. Other 6s we have are either too young or beckerman.... So... I thought let's try the pivot. Nagbe doesn't get enough credit for the amount of defensive work he puts and klejstan knows when to go forward and when not to.

Guys that I would like to bring in for friends lies that I passed on are hyndman, gyau, Rubin, shipp and a few others I know I'm forgetting.

I understand the sentiment to phase out bedoya but he still offers a lot. He is definitely not in the same batch as beckerman, jones and dempsey. Guy is still producing in Europe as well.

I hope Zardes goes to prove me wrong, but kieswetter seems to be a better version of Zardes. I went with lletget bc both he and Johnson can not only be a threat on goal but are wonderful with the ball at their feet. Giving juicy opportunities for wood and any attacker making a run in.

Anything that puts Fabian farther forward is a good idea. Wasted in D... This sept WCQ is a good time as we should handle St Vincent. The home match vs T&T will depend on our and their results in the previous game. If both of us win our game 5s, it's an exhibition (those are the favored results pre game for games 5...).

I am not a fan of Kljestan, and don't believe he would bring anything of value to the team against good competition. He'd do well against St. Vincent.....but he'd be destroyed by a good team. If you want to bring back an older option than I'd say Feilhaber would be the better choice.
As much as I like Lleget and think he deserves a chance with the team he wouldn't be a starter in my books. Zardes has more experience and is getting more PT with his club. Arriola could be another option who would likely be in front of Lleget at this time. Best guess is Lleget wont be with the team until the next friendly or the January camp.
Kieswetter is another player unlikely to be with the team at this time. He needs to settle in with his new club before he gets another call up. Expect Jozy to be called into this camp. Sorry if that upsets some....but it's going to happen.
I expect Birnbaum to get called in before Gonzalez. Omar kind of crapped out the last time he was called where as Birn actually performed. Birnbaum is also younger so I'd be surprised if he doesn't get called in.
Who is Rogers in your listing? Hopefully not Robbie Rogers....

When has any coach, not Jurgen, any coach, had a player not in their 23 man, 30 man pool for over a year, all of a sudden start that player? Even if you love a certaion player. If he hasnt at least been making the camps then to think that he should start is just ridiculous. There is a 0% chance Klestjan or Llettgat start in September qualifiers. They need to be brought into a camp first, and at least make the gameday 18 before you claim they should start. Start living in reality.

You can WANT a certain player to play. But when trying to pitch a starting XI it should at least be somewhat realistic if you want to be taken seriously.

Dave- my hope is that players like zelalem and hyndman fill in those spots as they mature. I understand what you are saying about klejstan. he is just playing very well right now and he really never got a chance to play that creative role under klinsy.

MSAntoine- dude calm down. I'm quite aware that bringing in a new player to start a match fora qualifier is a huge risk. Lletget has earned a call up in my opinion and this is something I'd like to see. This is minnow concacaf qualifying. It's possible that our last game for this is exhibition. Why not try something if we are in a good spot. And more importantly, It's conjecture. Calm down

both of you guys have valide points

1. we have a current selection of guys that klinsmann is naturally going to progress to the first team.. ie anyone one coming in who's not been called up will not be an automatic starter.

2. we have a collcetion of gusy we want the team to move towards. zelalem, hyndman, truthfully the under 20 squad mixed in with pulisic and any other fast up and coming rising star

what this leaves us wanting then is for jk to move away from the bedoya 's wondo's etc to the nagbe, perhaps nguyen? because he has called them.. nguyen's case less so because he's literally been given no time to play.. But Nagbe is primed to take over the spot you would give to Klejstan.

Yes the first game is against a minnow but the second game MIGHT be a win or get eliminated game. Once we lost to Guatemala it took away the chance to experiment. If Guatemala beats T&T, even if we beat St V's we would need a result against T&T or we get eliminated. You cant really change the 23 man roster between games, and you definitely want the same lineup as much as possible.

Again the World Cup is all that matters. You HAVE to advance to the hex at all costs. Now if you want to bring in 2-3 guys for those spots that dont dress (Zelalem, Lletget, etc) so if we win against St V's and T&T beat Guatemala then we already have the hex clinched thats fine. But let be real.

And you cant say its conjecture when you're post is about what lineup you think should be out there in 5 weeks. Conjecture would be a new topic, or adding to the existing Lletget topic calling for him to be integrated, not going to the WCQ thread and posting a lineup that says they should be starting when they havent been to a US camp this cycle

How well Morris and Dempsey are playing together for Seattle at FWD; should Klinsmann make those two his starting FWD tandem for these two games? A strong case could be made for it.
