No Kitchen isn't a wide midfielder, but he isn't chopped liver either. He is better on set pieces than Beckerman and probably a tad faster and craftier. If you used him to replace Jones, you would get the same effort...he just won't cover as much ground.

I don't see him playing in this match unless Beckerman gets injured or tired.

Beckerman and Zusi will start. I would be shocked/thrilled if they don't.

JK won't do it, but I'd take a calculated risk and play Birnbaum with Brooks and put Cameron in front of the back line to help MB defend Messi. Brooks and Birnbaum have played together and it looked pretty good. I have a lot of faith in Brooks to cover any loose ends in the middle...especially if Cam is right in front of the CBs.

...................Zardes...............
Pulisic.........Deuce............Fab
..................Cam.....MB........
Besler.....JAB....B-Baum ....Yeddy

I'd rather go down swinging...Argentina's off the ball movement is going to be really tough to deal with. I'd rather have speed on our flanks. We might as well go for it.

Losing Woods for this one is a massive bummer. He's given us so much more than Jozy could ever dream of up top. Better in every facet of game. Hopefully Zardes gives us some hold up play and stretches the D.

Zardes or Wondo up top? Zardes has been better as a wider player for USA, and I love Wondo but I think we have to hope sloppy touch Zardes doesn't show up and Gyasi the great does.... He needs the game of his life in this one. As I repeat myself, whether he starts- or off the bench-- Nagbe is going to get the space and time that he likes. What he does with it is key as Nagbe has the skills to expose those gaps Argentina leaves. After watching them both- not sure Funes Mori could even lace Brooks' cleats. He and Otamendi haven't been exactly convincing back there, and so hopefully we can exploit that.

What we need in order to win:
Zardes - he will need to do with Wood did against Ecuador and be dangerous on his runs. Stretch the defense and create room for Dempsey to operate. He will also have to be good on his first touches. We won't have a whole lot of chances this game, Argentina is too good. So the chances we do get, we are going to have to make something of them. We can't give the ball right back.

Dempsey - Going to need some of his magic. If he can get the space that he had against Ecuador and keep Argentina's defense off balance, he will get some chances. If he gets those chances he will deliver on them.

Bradley - he is going to have to defend well, which he has done all tournament, and he is going to have to be sound positionally and not give Argentina space. I think we need to be aggressive with Messi. Most importantly for Bradley is he needs to be careful with the ball. Try more long passes to Zardes, Yedlin, FabJo on the wings and stretch Argentina. He is better at those (MUCH) than he is at the shorter passes. Can't have many turnovers in our territory against Argentina.

Brooks/Cameron - They are going to need to have another game for the ages. If Brooks plays like he has been doing then we will have a chance. If he continues to play that way and has a game like he did against Paraguay, then he will be firmly in the running for the player of the tournament. These 2 are the key to us winning. Have to be sound positionally, and will have to have a few outstanding plays to kill chances for Argentina.

Yedlin and FabJo will need to pick their spots getting forward. Can't have the constantly foraging forward, but they do have to get forward and QUICKLY in the attack when it is on. If it is slow build up then they need to be slow to get forward. All it's going to take is Yedlin streaking forward in the attack, Bradley tries to pass it to the CM and turns it over and now it's Messi, Di Maria, and Higuain against Brooks and Cameron with Yedlin way up field. That's not a good look.

All we need out of the other Midfielders is to be sound positionally and not turn the ball over. Pick out good safe passes. Play smart (attack and defending).

You forgot to add one of the most important keys.

Jurgen not coaching scared. If he changes his tactics drastically and goes to a 4-4-2 with Fab-Bradley-Beckerman-Zusi as the midfield 4 then I think we lost before the kickoff. We gotta stick with bradley as the CDM and then either go Nagbe/Kitchen or Nagbe/Zusi as the other 2 CMs. The starting XI will tell me all I need to know about Jurgen's ability to coach us in big spots.

overrated. If the above happens (what I posted) it's not going to matter what formation we line up in.
If it doesn't happen it's not going to matter what formation we line up in.

First 3 games we lined up in 4-3-3 and were aggressive and played attacking football and won 2 and lost 1. Last game we lined up in a 4-4-2 and were aggressive and played attacking football and we won (and really dominated until both teams went to 10 men).
We can be successful in either formation, and neither would be a change drastically in formation, etc.

People just looking for a reason to blame JK.

Not the thread but i had mentioned and hoped that Bradley could make a move back to Europe and was laughed at. Apparently Sampdoria are interested in him. Great move if it were to happen. Anything to Europe top 4 league for him till 2018. After i dont care.

I think if we lineup in a 4-4-2, specifically with Beckerman & Zusi with Besler at LB and Fab in front of him, instead of going with either Nagbe, Kitchen, or Pulisic we'll get run off the field. I think if we go with those guys none of what you mention has a realistic chance of happening
