Anyone hear how Donovan would say "Jurgen told us this morning" often during the game? Has he made peace with JK? If so, i think that's great because both of them can really help out the program, especially now that JK is using somewhat of a consistent line-up. Man oh man.

Remember the pathetic turnout for the friendly in Texas. I can see many South American fans root against us and not having that "home field". If poor turnout, no more USNT games in Texas!

If we go the 4-2-3-1 route it will likely look like this:
Dempsey
Zardes - Nagbe - Zusi
Bradley - Beckerman
FabJo - Brooks - Cameron - Yedlin

But it would look more like a 4-1-4-1 anyways with Bradley more advanced in an 8 not a 6 and Beckerman sitting back in a 6. Zardes and Zusi would be getting forward a lot.

With the replacements we have and what Argentina is going to want to do (play Messi in center and let him roam free) we will be in either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3.

I don't want to be at home thinking we need to sit back and hope for a counter. I want to put out an attacking set of guys. If we go down I wanna go down swinging. Better yet, I want to attempt to beat Argentina. Sticking to a system that we know and has gotten us here is important to the confidence of the team. Immediately changing everything sends the wrong message to the players. 433 that can become the 4132 is fine by me.

I also would mind pushing Fabian up and slotting in besler.

Everyone freaks out. And yes it's Argentina. They are my pick to win the tourney also but damnit I want to win this game and that's not gonna happen with more CBs or sitting back. I hope klinsmann has faith in these guys and actually goes for it. Some of you will read this and say "yeah and then we lose". I say sure, but what if we win?

I like the sentiment of what you are saying...the reality of it it is another matter. We have gotten this far by being clinical with the few chances we have generated and by playing staunch defense. If you are advocating playing true to who we are, well we are a counterattacking, quick breaking team.

Pure and simple, if we get into an open game with Argentina we lose. No shame in saying that because they beat most teams in the world when they try to go toe to toe with them.

Everyone has mentioned Messi, but it is Higuain and Aguero that worry me more. They get into space well when Lamela and DiMaria mesmerize defenders.

Yes, they will be fatigued and their defense is their weakness, but we will have to have the ball to do damage. Outside of a demoralized Costa Rica, we have not really bossed a game this tournament.

So yes, I would advocate the following:

Guzan
Birnbaum, Cameron, Brooks
Yedlin, MB, Beckerman, FJ
Nagbe, Dempsey
Zardes

Three dedicated central defenders to clog up the space for Higuain and Aguero
MB and beckerman to protect the D with Yedlin and FJ to work the flanks
Nagbe and Dempsey as outlets and Zardes to run behind the defense to try and stretch it.

I do think, though that JK will opt for a 4-4-1-1

Guzan
Yedlin, Cam, Brooks, Besler
Zardes, MB, Beckerman, FJ
Dempsey
Pulisic

Fact remains Dempsey is (USMNT) successful when underneath someone else. Nagbe should do EXACTLY as Wood did, and we can be successful. Put Dempsey on an island, might as well give Argentina the win. No time for risks.

For me the line up would look like this

Guzan
Yedlin Cameron brooks Johnson
Beckerman Bradley
Pulisic Dempsey. Nagbe
Zardes

Wondo, kitchen, besler, birnbaum, most likely off bench
Wondo for Pulisic and move Zardes back
Besler for Dempsey move nagbe to the middle and Johnson up
Kitchen straight for Beckerman or Birnbaum for Beckerman moving Cameron to Beckermann's spot

You were also the one who said it was "confirmed" that 75% of the Colombia/US was pro-Colombia, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're probably wrong here, too.

Gonna be a tight one-- I don't see us attempting an open game against the best... This is a Beckerman type game if there is one. Lots of kicking and slide tackles. We really miss Jones particularly, what a dumb move by Jermaine (even if it was a mega soft red).

You know very well usa has a disadvantage when it comes to fan support in Texas we had always had small following every time we played there unless is vs Mexico or a central America team which we get outnumbered no way usa sells 70k plus in Houston unless we play a big team which in this case is Argentina and we know who most people are there to see. I mean we couldn't even sell out Seattle and it was about the same crowd when Argentina played bolivia a few days earlier. And yes it was a very pro Colombia crowd maybe even 70-30.

Yeah same backline as before. Fabian back over to the left. Yedlin back in.

I'd guess a midfield three of Nagbe/Bradley/Zusi

Young Pulisic on the left. Zardes on the right.

Beckerman could allow Bradley to move up and pair with Nagbe.

We may need an offensive sub and playing both Nagbe and Pulisic would really deplete us on the bench

I don't want to see becks in this game. Too slow for the speed of play Argentina will offer in the attack. If you're going to go the Dmid route, why not give Kitchen a shot? If these guys don't get opportunities, we will be screwd in Russia 2018 b/c none of the younger generation will have any meaningful international experience under their belt.

@federov- I like the idea of Kitchen playing but if Beckerman is there he will be used. I like Pulisic to sub around the 70' or so. As in my original post, Darlington Nagbe has to show up. Many have clamored for him to play and now he will get his chance. With all the attackers from Argentina he will have to defend, but should find space on the ball with his skill set.

Chance bobby wood plays we filed an appeal for him and jones. I think jones won't be overturned but woods yellow was off a restart that should have never happened because jones was on the field and it should have been a free kick for the USA not Eduador and after woods foul the game restarted from where jones got his red not woods foul
