As we approach the midway point of the MLS season I thought I would look forward a bit and try to identify those players who are worthy of attending the annual "Camp Cup Cake".

Goal Keeper: Howard, Bingham, Hamid
Defense: Birnbaum, Parker, Hedges, Redding, Shea, Vincent,
Midfield: Bradley, Nagbe, Lleget, Finlay, Manneh, Trapp, Polster, Diskerud, Roldan, Delgado, Alashe
Forwards: Jozy, Zardes, Morris, Sapong, Agudelo

I intentionally left Dempsey, Jones, & Beckerman out of the camp. At their ages they are likely to need the full winter break for recovery if they are going to be able to contribute to the USMNT in 2017. Additionally we need to identify & groom the next generation of players by getting them some experience in these meaningless friendlies.
I can't think of any MLS Right Backs who are potentially international quality. I'm sure there are names I've missed but I think this is a good starting point to open the discussion.

Some leagues, like in Norway, have a winter break, so Horvath should get a look unluess he moves to a bigger league.

No Acosta? Surely his versatility makes him a near automatic inclusion, right?

Besler will probably be there.
Also there are rumors Alvarado is trying to come to mls so he'd surely be there.
Lastly there a good chance some other Mexicans (a Rioja, race, corona) also make th move. It's hard to say until after the transfer window.

Chris Pontius has been having a bit of a revival...if he can continue his form perhaps he will be worthy of a call.

Acosta is one of my favorites, an utter lock for the next camp cupcake, unless he moves abroad. Yes my boy Campbell is ahead of fellow rookie Vincent, but it's a big step for him to make the Camp whereas Vincent will. Ventura Alvarado can play soccer-- I know last year didn't go quite as planned, but it's a shame he wasn't at the Copa. He would play behind Yedlin at RB and maybe be better, in my opinion.

Updated with suggested players (in bold):

Goal Keeper: Howard, Bingham, Hamid, Horvath
Defense: Birnbaum, Parker, Hedges, Redding, Shea, Vincent, Besler, Acosta, Campbell, Alvarado (if moved to MLS)
Midfield: Bradley, Nagbe, Lleget, Finlay, Manneh, Trapp, Polster, Diskerud, Roldan, Delgado, Alashe, Shipp
Forwards: Jozy, Zardes, Morris, Sapong, Agudelo, Pontius

I intentionally left Dempsey, Jones, & Beckerman out of the camp. At their ages they are likely to need the full winter break for recovery if they are going to be able to contribute to the USMNT in 2017. Additionally we need to identify & groom the next generation of players by getting them some experience in these meaningless friendlies.

I always thought Alvarado was miss cast as a CB and should have been given time as a RB long ago, would love to see him in the MLS and given a chance as an attacking RB, he has a great skill set for that position.

I know camp cupcake is far off and he could be cap tied by then (no he is not actually tied to Wales yet-shocking I know!) but unless there is absolutely no hope, we should really push for Adam Henley considering how dire our outside back situation is. I don't know about recently but he has expressed interest in the US before. And it just hasn't quite worked out with Wales at this point. Maybe he would take it as a sign or a missed opportunity if we called him up. Cupcake wouldn't cap tie him so whats the harm? I assume it could damage his Wales relationship but it could also be used as leverage. Either way I would hope we call him up and he falls in love with the team and all the different backgrounds (not a lot of black dudes on Wales) and decides to make the switch and becomes a solid outside back in our pool. Hey a guy can dream right!

ZERO chance Henley or anyone else in Europe (outside of the Nordic countries) are called in to Camp Cup Cake. They are mid-season. Camp Cupcake is for MLS players to get into shape.

The only time Euro based players have been called in were for reasons such as not playing for club, suspended, free agent or plays for u-23 like Kiswetter who was invited to the last camp. So anyone who is regularly playing for club in europe is a no go. Norway or Sweedish leagues can be called in as they are in line with the US calendar. So Horvath is the only realistic non mls option. That and mabye liga mx players who arent playing for club example orozco last year.

Duh. Brain Fart. I was just shocked he hasn't been cap tied yet. Came here with it.

Henley while not invited to the euros was included in the euro training camp. He is on the fringes of the wales squads 23. I dont think he would slide into the 23 for the US just because he plays in the championship. Lichaj and Ream have played better in the championship and neither were included in the 23 for the copa america. From his standpoint why switch to the US theres no guarantee of minutes or a role in the 23.

While it may be true Lichaj and Ream have played better (debatable), he very easily could receive more time with the USMNT simply because he posseses a LOT more speed than those guys and can more easily get into the attack. Something JK values a LOT.

He also has been called into and was on the bench against Israel in Euro qualifying. So he is on the fringes there. But it is true he is not cap-tied.
