I think the only change we make is bringing in Nagbe for Jones.

I could see us bringin in Pulisic for Dempsey (Wood shifts over) but I think that will wait until next game

Also if the CR match is a defensive battle then I don't see it being on purpose. Both teams need 3 points. At some point the game will have to open up.

I agree, it will open up after the first goal. I just think both teams won't assume the risk of exposing themselves in an open game with score tied until they're absolutely forced to press the issue for the win in the second half of the game. You never know with JK, maybe he finally feels he has the attack to force the issue. Still I'd hate to see us get hit on the counter and have to deal with CR's 5 man back line with another block of 4 in front of that. Very tough to deal with their bunker...

We are almost certainly in with a win and a draw vs Paraguay. If we win and then draw vs Paraguay we have 4 points. Only way Paraguay finishes with more than 4 points, if we draw them remember, is if they beat Colombia. I dont see that happening after seeing how both played in that first match

No, you are never "almost certainly in" with 4 points. So you have Colombia going into the final game with nothing to play for vs. Costa Rica who has everything to play for.

I think that lineup is trolling. Its super easy to put out a lineup with no chance of being put out there. Then if USA looks bad you can puff out your chest.
1) Guzan will be in net. He's the starter. He had no chance on either goal.
2) Why switch formations now? We looked good vs Ecuador and Bolivia. Costa Rica is much more similar to them then Colombia.
3) Castillo has always looked bad for USA. Until Chandler, Acosta, Shea, someone else steps up Id imagine Fab is the LB. Fab at LB with Wood, Pulisic, Dempsey on LW is better than Casitillo/Besler/Orozco with Fab at LW.
4) Doesnt Bedoya seem to always play better when he's inside. Anytime we play him on the wing he looks lost. I want to see him either as part of the triangle 4-3-3 or on the bench.

Now I do think Nagbe comes in for Jones. I thnk thats the only change we make.

Someone can come correct me on this

But I have never seen the US take command against a full strength Costa Rica before. Like 2009 the Bornstein goal, that was a back and forth affair

The snowgate.. I mean we did possess the ball lin the midfield, but that's mostly because it became a beach soccer game, where a bad touch never happened, and you can muscle off defenders with ease.

Forget about Saprissa or San Jose, we NEVER do anything there, because they just go light speed on their artificial turf, and it basically becomes futsal in open space. That's our worst nightmare. Whiplash everywhere.

We need results, that's without question, 3 points to be perfectly honest. But if we do it, while stifling their midfield, (Costa Rica has been 5 3 2 for some time now correct?), that's definitely an improvement. I think.

Basically if we play like we did against Colombia, except put 5 shots on target each half and score goals...

This. If we play like like we did against Colombia the next 2 games we will come away with 6 points and have a positive Goal differential (not even). IE we will win at least 1 of those games by 2+ goals.

No no no, that's no the point, we'll win of course. But we'll definitely be "improving" which was the goal these past 5 to 7 years.

Jen Chang (remember him) said we couldn't score from anything other than set pieces by landon

- now only goals we get scored on is because of set pieces

journalists everywhere, saying we can't hold the ball

-we're doing a better job, game by game against top ranked opponents

I mean, this would be progress right? Independant of results?

The worst feeling that The Truth alludes to was the Gold Cup final. That game was won on a cracker by that mexican right back. All credit to him. Wonderful strike.

We did get outpossed, but we worked shots on goals, and that yedlin combination to wood was awesome.. these are very small but they're stepping stones.

Not going to give a starting XI because the roster sucks.

But I will say we need to a see a midfield with:

Bradley/Nagbe
Jones/Nagbe

and Fabian at LW

Does anyone actually hope we lose tonight if it means JK got fired?

52% of @MLSist followers have voted hoping we lose if it meant JK gets fired. Over 700 votes in less than an hour at this point.

I want JK gone but I'd never pull a Landy and hope we don't play well.

I posted the results of meaningful games played in the US since 2000 back on page 2. We have 5 wins, 3 draws and 0 losses. Most games were close but we wiped the floor with them 3-0 back in a 2005 WCQ.
