Why does everyone want Fab pushed upfield more. Isnt it obvious that given our current player pool we are at our best with him at LB. Here are the options:

Fab at LW- Makes us play Chandler or Orozco at LB. Lets us only play 2 of Dempsey/Wood/Bedoya/Pulisic. Almost no chance Pulisic is among the 2 chosen, at least not while Dempsey is still around.

Fab at LB- Keeps crapbag LB options on the bench. Lets us play 3 of above group.

I dont think you can argue that if the goal is get your best XI on the field then Fab at LB accomplishes this. I think its also very clear that Fab is our best player at LB. Is he our best LW anymore? If you could only play Fab or Pulisic I bet more people chose Pulisic

100% spot on.

Yep Fab is our best LB and LW (At the moment I'd still take him in a big international tournament over Pulisic...but not by much).

BUT the other options at LW are way better than the other options at LB.
Pulisic/Zardes/Dempsey/Wood/Nagbe are immensely better than Castillo and Orozco.

Here is an exercise. Instead of best XI what is the worst XI we can put on the field in Copa. Have to keep players in a position they have lined up before for pro club or USMNT. (IE can't put Orozco at FW).

Horvath
Cameron - Orozco - Besler - Castillo
Beckerman - Kitchen
Dempsey - Bedoya - Zardes
Wondolowski

He scores goals in the mls so there is no doubt he will score goals against the likes of Belgium and teams of that quality

My take on Chandler at LB against Bolivia.

Some of us are making the assumption that Chandler is crap at LB based upon past performances. We need to see where he is right now.

Until the Ecuador game Brooks looked mentally disengaged against Concacrap/South American competition...like it was a toss off... who knows, maybe in some way he might have thought the comp was beneath him. He made a lot of mental mistakes and played well below the level he played at in Germany. Different story against Ecuador.

Maybe Chandler had a similair view as Brooks. With the Copa looming, and comp for minutes at a big tourney on the table, I think Chandler pulls a Brooks and gets dialed in and serious about the competition he's facing.

I'm not stuck on Chandler, but if he picks it up like Brooks did, it could be a huge positive for us.

The hard part for me is knowing how well we could play if we didn't have Deuce and Jones starting every freaking game. I realize the Copa will probably be their swan song, but it's frustrating waiting for them to be removed from the game before we can kick it into high gear with actual combo play and players moving off the ball on the same page.

Chandler sucks with the US. I'm glad he is out and Castillo is in.

I really wanted to keep Wondo off the list and put Zardes up top, but this is the only way it is a worst XI

Regarding Chandler. That theory about him not being dialed in because of the competition. It sounds nice. But then you think back to the World Cup where he started a few games and got significant playing time. He wasn't good then either (Brooks was). So it kind of puts a hole in that theory.

I don't know what it is about Chandler. It's weird. Consistently starts and plays well in the Bundesliga (arguably the toughest league), but can't play well for the USMNT. Sometimes there are just guys like that. Games don't translate. Maybe it's the style he is being asked to play?

Messi is not the same player for Argentina as he is for Barcelona. But I bet if he played internationally for Spain he would be. Podolski is the opposite. Internationally he is GREAT. For Club, never really been that good. Steady and solid, not great. Same thing with Miroslav Klose. One of the all-time great International Goal Scorers. For club, just good.

As far as Chandler and Castillo. Chandler might not be good...but he's better than Castillo...

Chandler didn't play in the World Cup did he? I thought he and Mix were the only outfield players not to see time.
