Gaines has signed with Wolfsburg. He was a US U17 player.

The number of USYNT players in Europe continues to grow.

We are going to get to the point, likely very soon, where there are guys like Gaines who are with good European clubs, and might not see a call-up. Part of the trade-off of an ever increasing talent pool. While its unfortunate in some respect, I think ultimately it's exciting and a sure sign of growth in the program.

This is going to make the U17 & U20 coaches work harder. It'll be up to them to have as close to equal CONCACAF & Euro based camps/tourneys so that he can properly evalulate the two groups of players. Then its another challenge altogether to integrate the best of both groups in limited times. We'll get to see how good these youth coaches really are.

McKinze Gaines according to Will Parchman earned his first week of training with first team. Interesting considering he transferred to their u19 a month or so ago must be impressing someone there.

Gaines, Wright, Tillman, McKinnie have all been impressing in Germany youth league. If we qualify and get proper releases U20's should be a favorite next year at the World Cup

But when we talk about program, what exactly, specifically are we referring to?

The USMNT which is a collection of what they receive from academies, schools, teams from all over the world including the US

OR is it the creative facilities here within the US supported by MLS?

Gaines played with the senior team, came off the bench for 10' in a friendly today. Yes its a friendly and yes some players are off on international duty but this shows how close he is to making the Wolfsburg 1st team. Wouldnt surprise me if he gets brought up during the winter break ala Pulisic last year

And yet he wasn't good enough for Richie last fall. I'm glad he's gone

Richie didn't have a clue as how to line up his players. He used Gaines as a wide player, but Gaines is more of a number 9.

I'm glad that Gaines is doing well @ Wolfsburg. The more youth players we have developing and succeeding with professional organization the better. Not all young players ever develop all the way into top quality professionals, so the more options we develop the better the chances are that the Sr. USMNT will be populated with top quality players.
The current USMNT is just now starting to see the player pool quality reach a point where good players aren't getting called up at certain positions. This trend will continue and increase over the next 4 year cycle. It's an exciting time to be a fan of US Soccer when see some of these young guys emerging in major leagues/clubs.....
Miazga, CCV, EPB, Redding, Gooch, Pulisic, Green, Zelalem, Hyndman, Wright, Perez, Canouse, Arriola, Rubin, Steffen, Horvath, Weah, Fossey, De La Torre, Olosunde, Scott, Lennon, Akale, Senora, Arce, Gaines, etc...
There are some very impressive prospects coming down the pipeline that will make it either very difficult or very easy for the Coach to select a team depending upon your point of view.

With the way Wolfsburg is struggling to score goals, I wouldn't be surprised to see him feature for the first team sooner rather than later.

McKinze Gaines making quite the impression at Wolfsburg. The 18 y/o grabbed another appearance for the first team in a friendly yesterday.

David Wagner and Huddersfield Town are on the brink of history as they look to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
