Looks like Poland is going after Miazga with intensity. Former Poland star and now Polish federation President, Boniek, has been in constant contact with Miazga. They want him for their senior national team. To Matts credit he still says he is undecided, but his parents are pushing him to play for Poland instead of the US. And this is what rankles me. First generation immigrants from many different nationalities in the US are pressuring their kids to play for their home countries.

I will be pissed if the US misses out on another highly talented young CB.

Matt has been getting scouted pretty hard by many top clubs from Europe. Chelsea already made him an offer, but he turned it down in favor of playing first team ball with the Red Bulls. My guess is that he won't be with Red Bulls much longer. I could see him either leaving for Europe at the end of these playoffs or next summer. He is already being labeled, in many European scout circles, one of the best young CB's in the world.

It's up to him. From everything I've seen about him, he's pretty comfortable in the US setup. It's hard to go against your parents' wishes though.

Semi-related question: when is the roster release for next week's qualifier?

Yep. If he doesn't want to rep this great country then that's his choice. I think the US has the inside track though. He chose to play for the US u20's over Polands U21's two years ago. He has stated several times he is leaning towards the US.

Bingo! Always goes back to the saying 'Everyone wants to be American but don't want to be American'. A lot of people love the luxuries and freedom of American but want to maintain their heritage and pride for a country that left for greener pastures in many cases, happens a lot with Latino as well.

Ultimately, I think if Jurgen knows the situation and calls Miazga into this camp and plays him, that shuts all the rumors down but Miazga has to want to accept the call. I think he is ready at this level especially against a minnow like SV&G.

To go off-topic, I wonder how much of a force we would be as a soccer power if we had all those fans who roots for their 'home country' and wanted their kids to pursue a spot on the US national team. We would always sell out football stadiums like Mexico plus we would have hell of a pool, Subotic, Ponce, Ibisevic, Rossi, Najar, etc...

The U.S. has plenty of soccer fans to fill up our national team matches and MLS matches, it just not all those fans are fans of U.S. soccer and MLS. If we had all those bandwagon EPL, La Liga, Serie A, etc...fans appreciate MLS as much, you know how much MLS could be a factor on the world stage at this point in its existence?

There seems to be a bit of a curse with these players. I do want to point out that Najar was never a US citizen. But about that curse:

Rossi chooses Italy: has early success, but has become cruelly injury prone. Italy won't touch him.

Subotic: chooses Serbia: Early success, but injury plagued the last couple of years, and now is a third choice CB. Serbia coach and him had a falling out, not playing for Serbia.

Ponce: never really that good. Bit part player for Mexico at best.

Ibisevic and Najar were never US citizens.

But yeah there is huge pockets of Polish-American, Serbian-American, Bosnian-American, Croatian-American, Russian-American communities that refuse to root for the USA national team.

But hopefully that changes as the USMNT gets better.

With St Louis selling out next weeks WCQ game, may signal change is happening.

If he want's t o play for Poland so be it he has a choice. But i think he will end up staying with USA i mean he plays here in MLS one thing would be if he played in Poland then it would be different. Anyways Poland has some very good CB's i don't see him getting much game time with them any time soon.

Hmm i would say their CB's are better than ours right now. And as a team Poland is better than USA right now also.

Poland needs a partner for Gilk who is unquestionably the number one left CB for poland plays very well for Torino and Poland. Other then him however the right cbs are not that good. Miazga is an exact fit the RCB of the future poland needs. US needs to call up miazga asap and nip this issue in the bud. Other then cameron and Besler nobody else other then miazga has shown they deserved to be called up for november. Gonzo is bleh, Brooks has been out injured, Orozco isnt good enough and Alvarado lacks playing time. Matt Hedges is rumored to be elgible for canada not sure if thats legit or not. So Miazga should definitely be called up for november. Losing Miazga to poland would be a big loss as I rate miazga as the best young cb in our pool.

He won't have to do a lot of work at RCB at Poland since they have Lucas lukasz piszczek at RB. But who would you pair hum with usa ? Brooks, Cameron, Besler not sure who will work out there if i may say i think his best pairing would be with brooks in the future or possibly CCV.

I can understand from parent's perspective, there will be natural bond to birth nation for first generation immigrants. You just cannot switch it off or swim against the flow, unless you come from a war-torn nation.
However, looks like Miazga wants to play for US otherwise, he would have taken the easy ticket to Euro 2016.

Does he already have a Polish passport? If not it may be worthwhile for his career if he waits to choose a national team until he gets the passport to qualify as a European
