Well. Dempsey seems to not be integrating into Tottenhams team that well.
Potentially could be bad for the USMNT going forward if AVB starts benching him.
Klinsmann needs to identify a clear talented back-up for Dempsey's position on the USMNT. Either moving Donovan inside, or giving Pontius or Adu reps at the position.
Anyways it's not looking great for Deuce in the early going for Tottenham.

Even if he rides the bench, he will still start every USMNT match.

Don't know about that. He needs to find a talented back-up regardless.

Speaking of bad performances, Lichaj is/was terrible today, AND he's in his natural rightback slot!

That's disappointing. I'm a big Dempsey fan, but you have to admit he's a bit overrated. All of that bluster during the transfer window about him going to a top club like Liverpool or Arsenal was a bunch of bologna. Or Tottenham for that matter.
He's just not good enough to start on a top 6 club in the EPL. Hate to break the news to everyone. At his peak, Landycakes was, but no other US field player is. Bradley is getting very close. I don't really get why a player wants to leave a top 10 club in the EPL where he's tearing it up, to a top 6 club where he'll ride the bench. Well, I guess I can understand it a little, but unfortunately the USMNT will suffer for it. Oh clint, why do you do this to us (and yourself). . ,

It was Dempsey's personal goal to play in the Champion's league, that's all there was to it.

Is it Dempsey not being used properly? Is it him not fitting into AVB's system? Is it the fact that he's not able to be under the radar anymore so people are paying more attention to him? Could it just be that he was tired from national team games this past week?
I watched the game this morning and he did give the ball away/was dispossessed a lot but to me it looked like he was still working hard. Maybe it's just a coincidence but today was Tottenham's first loss since Dempsey has joined the team.
I'm still very new to the sport so maybe there's a whole bunch of stuff that I'm missing. According to Twitter/other sites Dempsey ranged from "s***" to "solid but not spectacular."

I think it's too early to judge on how well Dempsey fits in at Tottenham. He may have simply had an off day, he had days like that with Fulham as well.

I think this thread is a bit of an over-reaction. He is still getting fit and integrating into the team. Spurs were without Dembele and Bale who provide the needed engine and athleticism in midfield. The only player on the whole team who looked good was lennon on the right. Dempsey's touch was definitely off but he still managed to get into dangerous positions. Had Cech had an off day or bobbled a few, dempsey would have had a couple of tap ins. Also, we all know Defoe does not pass, it is okay, that is why his good. But he could have slipped dempsey in for an "easy" one a few times. Dempsey is fine and him being pushed at the highest level, will only be good for the yanks.

I think I have come to the conclusion that with Dempsey's desperate attempt to find Champions league football; he just simply signed for the wrong team. I don't think Dempsey fits in well at Spurs. Also I think his form as sorely dropped as well.
Klinsmann may have a problem on his hands if Dempsey starts to lose more and more minutes at Tottenham before the Hex. And this is another reason why JK needs to sit down and have a heart to heart talk with Donovan after MLS Cup.
I hope Dempsey can get out of this funk he is in, and starts producing for Spurs.

The fact that Spurs was down a man didn't help, but I thought Clint did ok, no better or worse than his teammates once Ade got sent off. He's definitely not being used properly there though. I think that's just AVB not being a good coach for the most part.

How is he not being used properly? He is playing the same position that he plays for the USMNT, and the same position that brought him so much success with Fulham last season.
Yeah it didn't help to be down a man, but I think as the season progresses Dempsey will turn more into a sub. Ade and Defoe will probably become the starting tandem.

I have a friend from Sweden who is a huge Spurs fan that loves Dempsey, but I am with you that a lot of times he looks out of sync, mostly with Bale. I am hoping that will change in time.

Not sure exactly what he meant as not used properly.... maybe that he isn't the focal point as much as he is with the US or with Fulham. From the games I have seen of Tottenham, albeit not all, Deuce has played in the hole but most of the attack is played through Bale (with good reason) but to me from what I've seen of Deuce if he isn't the focal point sometimes he disappears in games and it's harder for him to make the same impact (a player like him needs a lot of touches). I still think that Tottenham was the wrong choice....not that he had a lot of options.

Essentially that is the gist of what I was saying. Yes he plays in the hole for USMNT and Spurs, but at Spurs he has much more responsibility to create as opposed to being the fulcrum of the attack like he is for the USMNT.
