Sunderland already playing more attractive football than they ever did at any point under Allardyce.

Wow, he is a little guy, hopefully he can be another DaMarcus Beasley for us.

He is 5'9". But he is stocky and strong.

Gooch has been all over the field trying to pressure defend.

He's got a tough task on that left side with Sterling there but he's held up well so far and had 2 good crosses into dangerous area in the box.

Borini should have been taken off not Gooch. But it was a good first start for the young Yank. Also a good sign Gooch will be getting first team minutes this season.

65 minute shift for Gooch. Thought he looked good out there. Very lively, earned a yellow, good touches on the ball.

He was by far their most dangerous player. I think he'll play well off of Defoe once they get some more feel for each other. Hope the yedlin deal goes through so they can grow together too.

Moyes clearly made two bad substitutions by subbing off his best players: Gooch and Defoe.

Gooch starting again today, with Guzan starting in goal for Boro. 10 minutes in, Gooch looking lively and put in a good cross that Januzaj just missed out on.

He's once again one of the best players on the pitch for Sunderland. Which isn't saying much, but I can't see him losing his starting place anytime soon.

It's remarkable that Gooch is starting in the Premier League a mere 14 months after Gooch was deemed not good enough to crack our 21 man U-20 roster.

That's 100% Tab's failure. If we want to improve our national team in the longer term then we need to start holding our youth coaches accountable for their decisions.

Of course there is not any level of accountability because we are US soccer and we don't want to upset somebody that played pretty well in the 94 World Cup.
