I hate when coaches do this. It's part of the game, get over it. Telling a player they shouldn't play for their international team. I hope Chandler leaves and gives this dude the middle finger.

I know some of you are praying and hoping that Chandler does what he says. But even if you don't like Chandler that's not good for the USMNT on several levels:

1-It takes away a talented player with potential at a position we are lacking. A potential starter in 2018. At the very least it takes away depth and competition at that position.

2-It sends a message to other future recruits that them playing for the USA and playing club in Europe might not be taken well by their club, and could dissuade them from choosing the USA.

What a douchebag of a head coach. I gaurantee he isn't saying that to other internationals on the team. I have been saying it for awhile: Europeans do not want the Americans beating them at their perceived "game."

No different to how most feel about our basketball and baseball teams internationally.....though I don't think that's it. It's a lot of travel on players coming stateside. Not a big deal if it's Europeans because it takes no time at all traveling throughout European countries.

Also, I'd rather not Liverpool players get called into their NTs. More risk of injury which has bit us the last few years.

Hogwash. They aren't telling Asian international or South American internationals to not play for their National team.

That read to me as this: either quit the USMNT or suffer the consequences i.e. You won't play.

Hardly any SA players in the Bundesliga, as far as Asian, I don't know if Veh has any. You wouldn't hear that anyways since it's not US related. Regardless, I'm fine with it. I don't like Chandler anyways.

I'm not fine with it at all. It may just be a coach venting his frustration with international duties. It's widely known many club managers get really frustrated over the international aspect of the modern game.

However, it sets a very bad precedent for American players. And I totally agree with 2tone, that this guy would certainly not have told a SA, Asian, and def not a Euro player to not play for his country. The gold cup is Concacaf's biggest trophy and this guy is telling an american player to snub the tournament for preseason club training. Some how I just can't imagine him telling a European player to snub the Uefa Euro Championship, or a SA to snub the Copa America, or even an african player wanting to represent his country in the African Cup of Nations.

Oh, and USnLFCfan, there are alot of South Americans in the Bundesliga. Just about every team in the league has several SA players on the roster.

A lot? Is 20ish a lot? How many of those are starters too or getting significant time? Maybe half, if that. I watch a lot of Bundesliga, and that's one thing they do, is push the youth movement......La Liga does a good job with that too.

Fuck that coach. And for the record, Eintracht has 2 Japanese players, an Ivorian, a Peruvian, and a Brazilian on the roster. I'm guessing all but the Brazilian are under some form of consideration for their respective NTs.

Hell, Carlos Zambrano played in the Copa America for Peru. Where is the coach telling him not to play for his country?

Again, with feeling, fuck that coach.

[EDIT] There is also an Argentine on Eintracht's roster. The Brazilian and Argentine aren't in the national team pictures, but every other non-European player is.

I think its more case by case basis. I think its more about the fitness level of the player. I don't see it as a conspiracy against America.

I really don't care. The coach needs to STFU. Dealing with international commitments of your player pool is part of the gig. Although it's probably happened before, but I don't recall any coaches that have told the press that specific players shouldn't play for their national team.

And it's not a conspiracy per se, but just a total lack of respect. This guy wouldn't do that to another international player/federation.

Sensationalism at it's best. Look up the original article and comments. Basically says Chandler should think about what's best for his club career as this is the second year he's come back late to preseason. He was the last one to arrive at Frankfurt and has only had one training session and Veh/trainers aren't happy with his fitness levels. Also said he will be starting in the back seat as Makoto is going to start at RB. No lack of respect, just normal coach talk.

Well you Anti-Chandler guys must be happy as he will probably go on national team hiatus if this is what it is said to be.

So why isn't he saying the same thing about Zambrano?

It doesn't change my mind in the slightest.
