Lichaj wasn't called for Jan. camp. No idea why he would suddenly be in camp for Copa. Don't get me wrong. I like the guy. Just don't know why he would all the sudden show up at this point.

Im tired of chanlder being considered. Im also tired of AJ never being healthy and still being considered by a lot of you. Why? What if he never comes back to his club level? Mix too. Jk can probably find someone younger that can do what he does and more. I would like to see players that deserve call ups and played in their position under JK for once. Not because of potential. Or nationality. Or favoritism.

Lichaj is playing in England with no winter break, can't call him up for a date outside the FIFA official match days. He's also on a mediocre Championship team at this point, in his prime. We may not see him again.

Oh I agree with you. Was just pointing out one of the several unlikely inclusions from the prediction by Rain

Ok, cool. Not impossible of course, JK has called Championship guys, but he hasn't done much with Lichaj to date and I don't see that changing any time soon unless he is playing at a higher level and simply cannot be ignored.

After the Copa and these past couple of friendlies I thought I'd bring this tread back for discussion as we head into the Hex. I'm intentionally leaving Jones & Dempsey out of the 23 until they return to playing. At their ages & the types of injuries they're dealing with it's questionable if/how they'll return.

23 player squad:
Keepers: Howard, Guzan, Horvath,
Defense: Cameron, Brooks, Besler, Birnbaum, F. Johnson, Yedlin, Chandler
Midfield: Bradley, Bedoya, Williams, Nagbe, Kljestan, Pulisic, Gooch, Green
Forward: Jozy, Wood, Morris, Johannsson, Zardes

Alternates:
Hamid, Bingham, Gonzalez, CCV, Miazga, Villafana, Acosta, Kitchen, Agudelo, Boyd

I'd love to see something like this sometime in the future when we have friendlies with our European players. I could easily see this being our strongest XI in 2018. A fast, technical attack with solid defense behind them.

--------------Wood------------
--Green-------Gooch------Pulisic---
-------Williams-----Bradley--------
-Fabian---Brooks----Cameron---Yedlin-
------------Howard-------------

Subs: Zardes for Pulisic/Green, Nagbe for Gooch, Striker TBD

You're putting he importance of these 2 friendlies on par with copa America? Oh dear.

Maybe a better context: "after cops America, the first several games in Europe, and the mms push to the playoffs. . ."

I'm not weighing the Copa & these friendlies equally. I'm projecting towards the future based on the last round of qualifiers, the Copa, Friendlies, league performance, age, and potential.

We know the Core that we're building the team around (Howard/Guzan, Fabian, Bradley, Brooks, Cameron, & Jozy). These are the current leaders of the team. Unless injured or in a serious slump, they'll continue to be focal point of the team.

We know that certain players are on a short leash due to injury, age, & questionable form (Dempsey, Jones, Wondo, Beckerman, Orozco, Gonzalez, Zusi, & Bedoya).

We know that young players (Wood, Pulisic, Gooch, Green) are beginning to emerge in leagues that are superior than where most of our "Core & Pool Players" are playing.
IF (big if I know) they continue to develop they'll be in prime position to take on major roles over the next 12-18 months.

And we know the pool players that are likely to be involved but haven't completely staked a claim to a spot yet (Besler, Yedlin, Chandler, Nagbe, Zardes, Kljestan, Morris). These are the players who've been called in the most over the past year + or are the flavor of the month (Kljestan). These are the rotation/depth players.

There are always going to be surprise players who come out of nowhere, but these can't be planned for in advance.

I hope Akale, Zelalem, etc become our surprise players, and not players like Hairston, Alashe, but then again I wouldn't be thoroughly disappointed.

There are any number of players who have the chance to jump into consideration....Akale, Zelalem, Hyndman, CCV, EPB, Perez, Wright, etc.... but they'll need to break into their clubs 1st team and begin to see competitive minutes. Even Green...who's performed well lately....needs minutes if he's going to stay relevant with the National Team. Until he does he'll be a fringe player.

If we talking about 23 heading into the Hex then Wondo pretty much will be included...probably over AJ at this point...and if Deuce continues to deal with the heart issue.

The Jürgen hates MLS garbage is over; Wondo, Sacha, Howard, Jozy, Bradley, Bedoya and more. He loves MLS more than Bob or Bruce ever did... Wondo has a role to play, especially trying to snatch a win in a potential draw in San Jose vs Costa Rica. Jordan Morris has had a good season and I look forward to him overtaking Wondo and others next year (maybe Wood), but not completely just yet. As @ Chris said- without Dempsey, Zardes and AJ, the forward group is short on experience. Cue the greatest MLS goal scorer of all time (soon to be).

Well 5 out of those 6 players have moved back to MLS since Jurgen has become the coach.

These guys are running out of time to get into the Russia mix. None of them have played a minute of league 1st team football. Ccv is the only one listed even making gamelan rosters. Best case for these guys is start making game day rosters after winter transfer season. That pretty much keeps them out of the us picture through then. Then they still have to break through to the team. Even if that happens in February/March they aren't going to immediately be brought in over the veterans like besler, bedoya, sacha. Best case scenario one of them is the 23rd guy in Russia. They are more for 2022.

@Msantoine - I completely agree....but there is always that slim chance that they could go on a run of good form and emerge. Some veterans are fairly certain locks, but others like Kljestan have only just recently returned to the team after long absences. They could be easily be overtaken by others if they get hot.
