What do we think we know about where Juergen's head is at with his lineup going forward?

I assume that he's thinking this:

Johannsson / Dempsey is our best forward partnership
Bradley / Beckerman haven't been as sharp as they usually are but that will be our CM combination
Bedoya for one of the wide midfield spots
Fabian needs to be somwhere in the starting 11
Guzan is a lock in goal

I have no guess as to what he's thinking about our backline especially with the upcoming roster changes and JAB's suspension.

Couple things from Panama game.
Dempsey as a withdrawn forward and ArJo as his partner worked pretty well. Best Combo we have had this tournament. Jozy is just way off form (and I'm one of his biggest fans/defenders). Dempsey and ArJo should start.
Zardes is better as a Wing. His speed is more of a problem for opposing defenses there and he just does better. That is where he needs to start in the Knockout stages.
Bedoya played a GREAT GAME, but he isn't ready for 90'. Which is perfect because Yedlin is so great as a sub.
I think I have figured out where Bradley is the most effective. Think it's the reason he wasn't as effective in the World Cup and hasn't been as effective this tournament, but was against Holland/Germany (particularly in the 2nd half). A-He gets better as games go on, B-He works so much better when there is speed out there that opens up space for him to make his runs. He doesn't work near as well when there isn't much space for him to make his runs. When he has space to make those runs he is excellent. He has that space most when Yedlin/Zardes/Morris are on the field. Bedoya/Mixx/Zusi out wide just don't combine with Bradley well, they don't have the speed to open things up.
Fabian is our best LB and our best RB. And it's not really close...I'd like to see Shea brought in for Evans. Start Shea at LB and Johnson at RB.
Brooks plays so much better when he has a yellow. It really calms him and makes him play so much more under control. Some of those tackles he had after that yellow were superb.
Chandler had a 15 minute stretch where he was absolutely awful. The rest of the game was just so-so.

I know people give Jozy a hard time for his first touch (which isn't the best), but his first touch is better than Arjo and Zardes. Especially Arjo when he is on the move, man it's bad. Not this tournament, but at some point in a friendly I'd like to see this lineup.
Zardes-Dempsey-Morris
Bedoya-Bradley-Yedlin
Shea-Brooks-Gonzo-Johnson
Howard

Man that would be scary for opposing defenses. Have Dempsey as a little bit withdrawn. Should be plenty of space for Bradley to make his runs from deep. LOT of attacking prowess and a lot of speed there.

What I think we'll see Saturday in Baltimore:
ArJo
Dempsey
Zardes-Bradley-Bedoya
Beckerman
Shea-Gonzo-Ream-Johnson
Guzan

Yedlin on for Bedoya as the planned sub.

Can we please just send Chandler home. I keep trying to put my support behind him and he just keeps on being the worst player on the pitch.

I think we all knew that Mexican ref was gonna screw us before the game started and we all saw it happen.

Pk not called when Zardes was blantanly fouled in the box.

Red card and free kick just outside of the box when Bedoya was taken down on a breakaway. I mean come on that was so obvious.

---
Takeaways from the game:
1. Brad Guzan holdin it down!
2. Fabian Johnson needs to play midfield
3. Bedoya is a classy player, good to see his return.
4. Beckerman was average at best again (pick it up Kyle)

---
For next game: "the ambiguously experienced duo" of Tim Ream and Omar Gonzalez to be the CBs. Chance to prove their composure and worth to Jürgen.

Fabian Johnson does not need to play midfield for the USA, and it has nothing to do with his ability there.

If you were to rank the USA Wide midfielders and Fullbacks it would go like this:
1-Fabian Johnson
2-Bedoya
3-Zardes/Yedlin
5-Shea/Garza/Chandler/Zusi/Mixx ???

Our wide midfielders despite not being a strong point are better than our options at FB. Thus Fabian needs to play at LB or RB for the USMNT. Until we can find 2 FB's that show they can be consistent...

Here is a thought that crossed my mind last night during the game. I know Concacaf is improving but I feel like we are moving away from the style of play that is prevalent. While I think this move is necessary to be able to hang with the elites it hurts us a little in the short run. Now the elites can handle it because they 1 are elite and 2 they are comfortable with that style of play so the ability beats out the physicality.

I am sure this doesn't make any sense but I was thinking about the way the guys played against Germany and Holland compared to the way they are playing now. I know the roster was a little different but there are still several key pieces playing in both games.

Agree with Gunner re: Zardes. He's better in space where he can utilize pace and his technical deficiencies aren't as big of an issue. I also don't think that Zardes has the best tactical awareness to make the necessary off the ball runs if he's playing up front.

I agree with this. Was thinking that last night. You also see how much better we perform when we combine speed (Zardes/Yedlin) on the edges with Bradley in the middle and then have our 1-2 combinations.

@usagunner- I get your point. As far as this tournament goes, Beasley and/or Shea should be called in at LB in my opinion. I just think Fabian adds a lot to our attack as a midfielder. "Needs" may have been too strong. But if he stays at LB we need to slow the game down a little and allow him to get forward. Too many times we rush the attack and then he is wasted back there at LB.
***i am a noted brek Shea supporter. I think he's our guy at LB going forward.

I think Shea is our guy too. But I can understand calling in Beasley for the Knockout stages. Add's some stability and leadership to that back line which is desperately needed.

Think the back 4 will be:
Beasley - Gonzalez - Alvarado - Johnson
on Saturday.
If we win saturday it will be:
Beasley - Brooks - Alvarado - Johnson

I think we will see a lot more stability in the roster the rest of the tournament.

I do find it kind of awesome that EVERY FIELD player started 1 game in the group stages. The only 2 people who didn't play were the 2 back-up GK. And we still got 7 points and should have been 9 (Panama should have been 2-0), AND we played awful in all 3 games.

In the past there was no way we could play our B-Squad, play poorly and still come away with results even in the CONCACAF games.

It's a sign of progress when we can win games with less than 100% squad (form) and less than 100% squad (personnel).

I disagree with FJ moving to the MF. As Gunner correctly pointed out, MB plays better with fast wingers that stay out wide. I'm not saying FJ is slow, but when Zardes and Yedlin have both been on the pitch out wide we have have played our best.

I know it is not ideal at this time of the tournament, but if JK is going to experiment any more, one experiment that may be worthwhile is trying Corona or Bedoya in the holding role. Beckerman for some reason has not been able to handle the speed of the game.

good things happen when FJ is in the midfield he can combine well with Dempsey and Iceman. Saying that i wouldnt mind having him at RB considering Chandlers struggle an of course Beasley will play right you dont bring him to camp to bench him
