So it was a good start for USA with 3 points, and weak by panama to only get 1 point. Looks like group A is going to go to the good old USA... Like we all knew it would.

But over in group C, a bit of a slow start by Costa Rica with the 2-2 draw against Jamaica. Currently it's 0-0 in the Canada v El Salvador game. Everyone is expecting Costa Rica to win the group and be on the USA side of the bracket, but the door is open for the other teams. 2B goes to the other side of the bracket.

And it finished 0-0. Same old canada. A missed opportunity except for our manic poster who probably had a good time at the game screaming no vale at the top of his lungs.

The Jamaica/CR game was super entertaining.

Its too bad Canada couldnt take advantage. Had they won they could have stolen that group and pushed CR & possibly Jamaica to the Mexico side of the bracket. Oh well.

Jamaica looks like the copa not only gave them confidence but got them game ready while everyone else looked rusty as hell that first game.

Unfortunately same old Canada and same old El Salvador. El Salvador at least appear to be getting more creative with the spot fixes (2 stretcher visits in the first 10 minutes). Poor game overall. The Canadian message board posters were rabid with hate for Kyle Bekker and faint praise for the mighty Kyriakos (Kenny) Stamatopoulos in goal (whose name Univision spelled wrong when giving him man of the match, but really, can you blame them?)

Too bad for Canada. Now they have to beat Jamaica or CR to advance.

Canadas midfield was pretty oddly decided on. Russell Teibert and Johnathan Osorio didnt start even though De Guzman was injured. Instead Samuel Piette who plays for Deportivo Coruna B in the fourth division of spain and Kyle Bekker who doesnt start for Dallas were given starting roles. Teibert and Osorio played well in the final 10 minutes when they came on as subs. Canadas midfield last night was looking like straight garbage before they came on. I like Canadas coach but he made some really strange personnel decisions last night. El Salvador was the better squad for the night Canada's goalkeeper was the difference between a El Salvador win. Canada actually might be able to get through as one of the two third place teams with a draw against Costa Rica or Jamiaca since Panama and Haiti are the underdogs in their next two games.

Pretty entertaining game last night awesome atmosphere thought El salvador was the better team but Canada had the best chance with Larin.. Also did not think Costa Rica looked that impressive in their first game so that group is wide open and the most even from all of them. Also I think we are Going to see a historic beat down on Cuba today their down to 15 players and no head coach.

chillguy, definitely agree, some odd choices in selection. I get having to do some squad rotation given the 3 games in a week, but the general consensus among the Canadians is that Teibert and Osorio need to be out there and to get time to work together as they're the future, while Piette needs to play deeper if at all and Bekker needs to be off the field entirely. It seemed maybe part of the preference for Bekker was the idea that set pieces would be key, but even his set piece delivery was poor.

admsghs, El Salvador did have the better of it; I don't think they looked any better than they have in years past to refer back to our earlier debate, but not worse either. What are the Salvadoran fans' feelings about the team now, their first Gold Cup and into their first qualifying cycle since the match fixing scandal? Is there lingering anger and skepticism or are they just happy La Selecta's back out there and putting faith in the new guys to represent the country well? Are there fears for the national team program if something happens again?

I'm not saying I'm jealous of Mexicos soccer team but I am certainly jealous of the technical ability a lot of their players have. When they're on they can be a fun team to watch.
