So if a World Cup was played tomorrow with the top 32 teams we wouldn't make the cut. That's almost as comical as when we were ranked 4th. The FIFA rankings are stupid.

It has been a tough month with away victories in Amsterdam and Koeln and a home win over Guatemala, glad to see we dropped 7 spots.

Don't worry FIFA rankings are a complete joke. Argentina loses to Chile in the COPA America Final, and somehow they jump over Germany as the # one team in the world. I mean Romania is 8th, yeh 8th!! Wales is 10. I know Bale is good and all, and they did just beat Belgium in a Euro qualifier, but Wales as the 10th best team in the world? No f'n way! England is 9th, how the F do they continually stay in the top 10? It's f'n crazy! I think the FBI needs to look into the FIFA ranking system and w/e stupid ass algorithm they use, lol.

The USA dropped because the 2011 Gold Cup is now off the books. If we win the gold cup Im sure we'll go back into the top 20-25.

Regarding England, they havent lost a match since the world cup. 6 out of 6 wins in euro qualifying (huge bonus points).

The problem is the European teams are always playing games that matter. Whether it is World Cup qualifying or the Euro qualifying. So their wins are weighted more than our friendlies. When we do play in meaningful games it is against crap CONCACAF teams.

MSantoine is right.

If we win all 6 games (and play Costa Rica and Mexico in the knockout stages) we will jump WAY up. we will lose no points, we will only gain points. As we didn't play a friendly in July of 2011, 2012 or 2014. We lost a friendly in July 2013. So we have NO points from those months (which would be the month that depreciates/drops from rankings).

My not 100% accurate rankings show that our 2015 match average after the three recent friendlies is 362. If we win every gold cup match wed have a new 2015 rating of 662.5. Not taking any euro matches into account (theres no euros so it would only be friendlies anyways), gaining 300 ratings points in this calender year would make us move up to around 12th place or so.

Its obviously challenging to win every game but if we do we will go right back up to where we should be, likely around 15-20 or so.

It's just amazing how poorly run FIFA is. They miss a golden opportunity to engage its audience if the rankings were even remotely sensible. Now, they're just a footnote that no one cares about (and rightly so).

The problem is there is no real way to rank teams between confederations. The only times they play meaningful matches is the confed cup & world cup. So your talking a max of 6-8 matches every 4 years. In friendlies teams just play differently so its not really fair to say US beating Germany in a friendly is the same as Slovenia beating Germany in a UEFA qualifying. I wish they get rid of the FIFA rankings altogether and seed teams for the world cup like they do the U20 & U17. The federation winners, the host, and maybe add defending champ and/or confed champ as the seeds (6-9 teams depending on who qualifies and who wins the confed/previous world cup). Make each federation come up with their own rankings (like UEFA coefficient and CAF points system) to use for seeding in the qualifying and federation tournaments.

I don't know the AP and USAtoday have developed pretty decent systems for ranking NCAA teams that don't necessarily play each other. Maybe FIFA needs to allow third parties to run the rankings.

I know that there are ELO rankings and there is nothing preventing a third party from doing their own rankings but if FIFA published the list(s) on their site it would be a game changer.
