Oh shit, I didn't even notice about Perez. I wonder if club stopped it OR if he's injured? Doesn't make sense otherwise to bring up Kunga over Perez.

It's hard to say...but you have to wonder if today was a long day for Josh because he was waiting for a phone call from Tab (But you're telling me we're really not rating an 19 yr old who is on the edge of first division soccer in Italy? Hard to believe)

I doubt he found out just today. Would not be a surprise if it was asked for him not to go. My feeling is that players are allowed to play by their teams in this tournament either to shine light on that player for a transfer or to prop up their developmental system.

I am surprised that Spurs let CCV go after being injured in that camp.

Surprising US didnt get any of those guys. Euro teams almost always let their academy/u23 guys go. I hope Tab comes out and says who was asked and couldnt be released because otherwise Im going to asume he thought guys like Kunga/Ebobise were his best choices which would be sad to think

Original post from kernn63

Shalke apparently blocked the release of McKennie and Taitague (assume Wright as well?) HT BSchredder.

Stars missing: Akale, Yueill, Taitague, McKennie, Gaines, Wright, Perez

I was just about to mention those players. Very unfortunate they were not released for a WC also akale have no idea also. On top of that we look very weak at Full backs. From a first view perspective I give this team no farther than quarters but hey I may be wrong and they might win it all.

I guess I'm not surprised by Olosunde being missing but that's another guy, and a guy who can play fullback. I am moving to Senegal shortly after we play them, my banter with the staff will be entirely soccer related.

Bummer that we won't be able to see McKennie and Perez. Will Parchman referred to McKennie as the best player on the team on yesterday's TSS. I was hoping to see him in action.

Nice to see CCV get released and Sargent get promoted. It would be great to see Sargent get some minutes against U20s.

A lot of talent missing. Sad about Schalke not releasing Mckinnie and Taitigue. It better have been the same for Akale.

Think about how far we have come as a soccer nation. We can have a discussion about the very good players that are not released by their clubs for a U-20 world cup. We could not have had this conversation about the senior team in 1990 or 1994. It is a mark of progress.

Fiorentina according to Ramos wouldn't release Perez. That's why MLS development of youth players is so important. Can't rely on euro teams to release our players for youth WC's when it isn't mandatory for them to do so.

Is Zelalem still worth getting excited about? Or was there someone more deserving who got left off the roster...

Supposedly he has been showing quite well in training with the u20's. I would say he will probably be a starter in a 3 man midfield.

Zelalem with Hyndman gone, and a more direct adams and EPB in my opinion will shine better than he did in 2015.

I'm not saying Hyndman's a problem, but both are playmakers that need the ball at their feet that seemingly never found a taste for possession game... which would have allowed for ample opportunities between the two of them to make plays themselves.

I'm curious to see how Ramos lines them up. in a 3 like 2tone said, or maybe even a 3 over EPB four man midfield. Adams has played right back for RB at one point right? He might find utilizing that flank dynamic often if that's the case. It's far better than Zelalem there when he did it in 2015. That is, when he played Delgado as the CDM, and hyndman, arriola, zelalem in front of him.

All 3 started for Shalke in their playoff game vs Bayern, Taitague drew a pk and Wright scored a goal and Mc kennie played 90 in their 3-1 win. Also potential dual usa/german Timothy Tillman started for Bayern. Still Sucks shalke wouldn't release no player's. Still think Ramos made a big mistake not bringing in Akale I would of took him over zelalem or de la torre in a heartbeat.

I would love to have had all three in Korea. But tell me the last time the US had three players be told no because we value them to much to miss the upcoming playoffs. Is Taitague eligible for u17 since he will still be eligible for 2019 u20?
