Such as life with Mexican- American players. It's futile to continue to think these guys want to play for the country they were born in.

IMO the US needs to focus on other Latino-Americans that want to play for the US.

The US has made huge efforts to scout and include Mexican-American players in the youth system. And what I can gather is that a lot of them (not all) are using the US system in order for Mexico to notice them.

I remember not to long ago Edwin Lara and others said they used the US system in order to get Mexico to notice them. Harsh reality to take.

We shouldn't be begging any player from any dual nationality to pick the US. I would rather lose with players who want to rep the US rather than with other players who don't really want to rep the USA.

Never was a fan of trying to recruit the Mexican-American. Many of them prefer playing for Mexico and see Mexico as a better (soccer) country. Plus their families wanting them to play for Mexico doesn't help. I agree recruit players from lesser Latin-American countries like Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador is the key. They know they have a better shot at making the World Cup and being seen regularly on a larger stage playing for the States.

I think until the Mexican-American embraces being American and roots for America over Mexico then this will continue to be the norm.

dont see how this is shocking. The problem is Mexican-Americans are the most type of players that exist around here. Plus that is the reality but you cant find their true intentions until they commit. Another problem if a player like Sebastian saucedo fails to make Mexico we take him with open arms. So in their heads they still have a way to improve their career. Just a thought. I want committed players first in my national team

Any word on how Muk Akale progressing at Villarreal? Is he consistently getting PT for their youth squads? Besides the occasional goal, I haven't heard much about his development of late.

They did the draw for the U17 Concacaf championship and boy did US make out like bandits. They got the easiest group (them, Panama, St Kitts/Nevis , Haiti.

Also they changed the format so now top 2 in the 3 groups go to a second round where there are 2 groups of 3 teams and you play both other teams (so 2 games instead of single knockout). Again US lucked out as there group is matched up with the other two group 2nd places so if they win there easy group, and assuming Mexico wins their group like they always do then US avoids Mexico completely.

Even without some of the euro guys they should easily win their group and then only have to go win/draw vs some mediocre teams like T&T and Canada.

Two months or so away from the competition, it appears many of our "talents" will make it to the World Cup, and we wait for the draw. Winning the concacaf championship was a good start and the team came together well. The defense in particular played well. When CCV gets included at CB, I think he partners Glad and on we go. Many have taken issue with Ramos and his playing EPB at the #6 spot.... in tabs opinion:

"RAMOS: It is an extremely difficult position to play. I already tried [Erik] in that position during the last cycle against some international teams at Dallas Cup. He can always be a center back because that is easier and depending on who we have available we may do that at some point but I think he is really talented so I want to continue to push him. I was not surprised by his performance."

Seems like the captain will continue in that role. The player himself is a confident athlete and soccer player. I've seen him in person, his play recognition is outstanding. Speed of thought is his best attribute and then his athleticism. If he can keep showing well it might be his new position going forward.

The team itself needs to attack better ahead of the defenders and Palmer-Brown. Brooks Lennon showed well, the other guys need to look at themselves in the mirror as tryouts for spots are still ongoing...

I would swap out Saucedo for Scott after the El Salvador red card...we don't need that ill discipline.

Are we at the point where we go, Akale is at Villareal.. and is a damn fine player, but Zelalem is playing for such and such etc..

I know that's a poor example. A better would be CCV, Miazga, Glad. etc. One out of those three is not starting. But that one, might be the best out of all.

Wow, what a time to be alive.

I think it's clear that the euro reinforcements (zelalem, schalke guys, ccv, Perez, and akale) are needed. Especially the offensive guys. Our forwards were awful.

Who on our, lets say 30 man roster, are pure target strikers or at least competent at target striker role?

Granted, I am basing this on highlights of one player and watching others for 2 complete matches, but Timothy Weah seems to me to be an upgrade over the forwards at the CONCACAF tournament.
