Ouch 3-0..

What I learned from this game so far:

EPB wasn't ready to play today... He has been a step behind every play. Honestly Donovan prob would of been a better option. If you've seen him play you know why.

Allen isn't as good as I thought.. Not even close. Gall would of been a way better final pick.

Delgado trying to play D mid against a physical decent opponent won't work.. My fears of him being run over came true..

With that said, hope we get it together and get ready for next round.

We could of really really used Gall, Flores, Prefer..... I expect like 5 line up changes next game... Dammm is Miazga and Payne that important for our defense ???? Geeez no depth what so ever....

Ukraine should of won this game like 6-0 and I say zero for USA because we never really had a good chance other than the phantom pk call which I'm glad we missed... USA better.come out with a whole different mentality next game because even if we play slightly better than today we would still get killed by colombia or Portugal.. We need to have a perfect game... And like I said I expect like 5 changes At least for the next game... For me it would be Rubin, Thompson, Sonora, Payne, Miazga.. those are players thay didn't start today.

We made this Ukraine team look really good, even more so Kovalenko haha...

Ramos's decision not to play players bc of cards will either look smart or really dumb depending on us advancing next round or not..

Disappointing. There will only be a few players that move on from this team to the senior level. Pretty much on par for the past decade.

MLS academies still have a ways to go in producing top talent.

Or Portugal... Yup most likely them or Colombia. Would rather get Senegal or even Portugal.. If we lose in the round of 16 Bye bye Ramos have a good fishing trip.

Yep, Rubin, Miazga, and Payne on the field makes a big difference. But with that atrocious one sided ref tossing yellows like candy it could have bitten us in the ass with Miazga and Payne.

We'll have everyone for the next game...do or die. I'm confident we'll fight hard.

Youth teams are unpredictable. Look at Argentina more than likely out of the tournament and they had on paper one of the strongest sides coming in.

The U.S. still moving on. Hopefully they put in a better performance in the round of 16.

Yes it was a disappointing result but I dont think the outlook is as bad as some people think.

What this result confirmed:
Moore & Allen are extremely far behind Payne & Rubin in terms of skill.
EPB is not quitee ready for prime time.
Miazga is a true leader.

What this result showed: Arriola is the guy who lost his job at TJ, made terrible decisions all game. Without Payne making things easy for him he was a lost puppy.

What this result means: Steffen isnt the problem. Those three goals were not his fault. That free kick was perfect. It went as close to the wall without touching and hit as far on the post without bouncing out. Sometimes the other guy makes the perfect kick. The 2nd one was just Moore getting abused on the give and go and Stefen had no shot. On the third the team had already given up.

Why its not bad: Yes we are playing Colombia or Senegal next round. You know who we would likely be playing had we won? Colombia or Senegal. As group winner its likely that group 3rd or the Mexico/Uruguay/Serbia third. All 5 potential opponents are about the same. However by being in 2nd we avoid Brazil and Portugal, 2 of the top two teams untl potentially the finals. Other than playing the Germany/Ghana winner in a potential semis we avoid most of the tough teams. (***note before you say Im a homer I made this call before the game)

Also Ukraine is not weak!!! Seinfeld joke aside they arguably showed better in UEFA qualifying. Portugal was in weak groups every step of the way. There best win was vs Austria. Ukraine beat England. They both tied Serbia. Ukraine tied Russia. Their defense is one of the best in the tourney (*** I made this call in the group preview and it showed)

Ramos got his tactics wrong. I'm somewhere in between apologist and persecutor. But today he got it wrong with playing defensively (one can only hope that it was his mindset going down to the team instead of team instinctively bunkering down. If we are ever going to shed this sub tier mentality we have to stop with being reactive against opponents. With absolute respect to Ukraine, who consistently put out solid to great players, if we lose 3 - 0 we should be losing in a fists swinging contest. Not with two lines of 4 and one CDM behind a line trying to absorb pressure. gotta take those training wheels off.

The wheels aren't falling off this wagon, we have a game in the knockout stages to enjoy because of the business we got done. Wasn't the way we'd have like to, but we have it. Hopefully we'll play with alot more conviction and a willingness to actually take control of this game. And about that possession stat, yes it's meaningless, until you don't have any edge to your attack and you can't take control of the game.

Palmer-Brown made 2 rough choices, from what I saw in the highlights.

Granted, he was in a difficult situation, but he made the least of them.

He looked like he just crammed on tactical defending the night before, and now all the right answers to the wrong questions were coming out.
"Now I am support defender"
"Now I am pressure defender"

I don't know, were those the one's going down Shaq Moore's flank? And him having to cover that space behind him?

EPB wasn't golden, but Moore is pretty damn putrid. At the very least a person who can't put simple one touch passes together should be asked to be a rock defensively, and he is far from that. He's not an international player on this level. =(

NJ kid Oluosonde is. Maybe.
