Watched the Cosmos vs NYCFC

Like I said on the MLS site, entertaining game but very low quality of soccer. I never saw more than 5 passes completed on either side.

The Cosmos should be in MLS. What a shame. I don't recall all the details but it seems like they were adamant about a stadium in Belmont park against MLS wishes and they seemed to think that the MLS needed them more than they needed MLS during negotiations. Is there any more to the story?

The proposed stadium. Don't know if it got approved.

I read on ESPN that any Dempsey suspension applies to the USMNT and MLS. I didn't think it would be applicable to MLS as the incident happened in the Open Cup.

USSF is the governing body of all soccer in USA, including the MLS. That's the reason skangles.

Right but when there is a disciplinary issue in a MLS game, MLS decides and dishes out their punishment. I don't think That Garber and company send it up to the USSF. That's what I found confusing.

Dempsey only got a 3 game suspension for MLS games and a Fine. So he could play in the Gold cup. Now the question is will JK include him in the final 23 man Roster. My guess is yes no way he leaves his Captain out. He likes players with tenacity!!

Since that 3 game suspension was from the MLS. I wonder if he will get any further suspension from the USSF?

Apparently the USSF is going to meet next week to discuss a suspension but it can only be applicable to the US Open Cup because any Dempsey's suspension from the MNT gets dictated by the MLS suspension despite this incident occurring in an Open Cup? Say what now? Moreover, what's the point of debating a suspension from the Open Cup for a player whose team has been eliminated?!?

If SBI is correct with what they're saying then this is the most unbelievable part of the story. It makes no sense at all.

Additionally, irrespective of what we think is an appropriate disciplinary action the rule is pretty clear that destroying a ref's property is assault which is a minimum three month ban. That seems harsh to me but that's the rule and for MLS to rule differently so that our star player is conveniently available for the start of the Gold Cup is honestly bull shit.

They clarified that the three month part applies to amateurs not professionals. The powers that be were trying to decide between referee abuse and assault (which was 3 game vs 6 game minimum). Ives and a lot of the other writers didn't clarify that since the rules were vague at the beginning. Once USSF/MLS clarified it the writers didn't update it or correct anyone just let everyone think that was the case. I think Grant Wahl was the first to clarify the issue but not a lot of people took notice.

Well looks like Dempsey will be available for the Gold Cup. Good or bad?

Should JK strip Deuce of the captaincy?

Thanks for the clarification. You're right SI has covered this far better than SBI or ESPN. I should have started there.

Based on your comment I looked into what SI was saying and there's a really long and detailed write up in the bottom of this article by Brian Straus about several times that the MLS elected not to adhere to the 6 game ban stated in rules.

the real question is- will the "referee's union" so to speak punish Dempsey by not giving him his marginal fouls/dives?? Will they be quick with the yellow/2nd yellow when Deuce starts complaining and throwing up his hands?

Yes I think Bradley will become permanent captain.
