One big problem with this is the backlash this would create. FIFA claims (whether they do is a different discussion) to be trying to grow soccer throughout the world and to help developing countries. This looks pretty bad. Pretty much the developed world telling 3rd world countries to crawl back into their caves.

There is such a thing as the "wrong way" to do things...you wouldn't want to try to end world hunger by shipping thousands of tons of Sour Patch Kids or Milk Duds to underdeveloped countries...same reason you don't drink saltwater when you're thirsty, it's counterproductive and ultimately destructive.

So apparently Blatter will be attending the Gold Cup this summer. This is him basically him saying to the world, "the FBI ain't got shit on me bitches!"

Or not. Sepp, it was not nice to know you, sir. His resignation isn't a panacea though, FIFA still needs significant reform.

And then the FBI and DOJ just forced Blatter to resign like a boss.

Now lets get down to business. Most of UEFA doesn't want Russia to have the 2018 WC. My guess it gets stripped and handed over to England. Russia will boycott but who cares.

A lot of UEFA backed the Qatar bid( because of bribes), but I guess another Asian confederation country gets it, here's looking at you Australia.

Like I have said the US should try to get the 2026 WC.

Best news so far. You know what will top it when blatter gets arrested and starts sobbing like a little girl when their taking him in. Also I don't see Russia losing the WC but I do Think Qatar gets stripped and most likely goes to Australia. Also I think USA has a great chance of getting 2026. Because we know 2030 is for Uruguay/Argentina.

Many implications for stripping the WC from Russia and Qatar. With the stadiums already under construction the delay in a revote could see massive lawsuits from Qatar. Haven't seen much written on this, thoughts?

What does Qatar do with stadiums under construction? Stop construction? Finish them even without the WC? Sue the crap out of FIFA (highly likely)?

Perhaps a certain amount of specific proof against Qatar specifically could undermine their attempts at a lawsuit.

Yup with all that $$ FIFA has saved up i doubt they care if they get sued you know they will just settle with a third world country like Qatar.

Maybe FIFA put in their contract with Qatar that they can kill 100 impoverished migrant workers, max. So now the contract is broken?

My question is why have a special election. 3 days ago was the election. Just say prince Ali is new president.

In the next months leading up to the election blatter can do what ever he wants since he is still officially the president. Who knows what he will do strip the 2016 Copa America ? Bann all concacaf teams from playing outside the region ? Fix games and tournaments while he is still around. So much stuff can happen...

Listened to the press conference, they said according to FIFA rules they require at minimum 4 months for an election once announced so that members get announce they're running and run their campaign. (Aka get their bribes in).

I don't think he has the authority to do those first two things you suggested. And I don't think it would be wise for a man currently being investigated by the Department of Justice to engage in further scandals.

I know those are the rules. Usually when these things happen my guess is they are in midterm, I doubt when that rule was put into place they imagined someone resigning 4 days after being elected.
