Both Philly and Chicago are bad, but the game has been entertaining.

I don't think LA will take it.

I think their back line can be had. It would probably take a team with a solid D that could either sit back and stalemate their attack or have a very disciplined high press...combined with enough quality up top to counter their back line. LA's lightning counter is what really destroys teams...just can't get stretched out and commit a ton of players to the attack...easier said than done.

Their midfield is strong but I think they're still looking for someone to provide better chemistry up top with Keane. They start Gyasi at mid, but need to move him up top and drop Keane underneath...they don't have anything near the LD/Keane chemistry up top. Gio is supposed to fill the LD role, but it isn't quite there yet.

If anyone can take them out it would be KC.

Possibly NYRB, maybe Seattle. Torres was a massive upgrade at CB...Oba could give the LA back line fits on the counter.

Rogers is good for 2-3 marking gaffes or deep turnovers per game, Gargan is a foul machine, AJ can be beaten in the air if he plays at CB...Leonardo is barely passable as a CB...basically play away from or go after anyone not named Omar...

I'm not convinced that Gio and Gerrard add a significantly greater impact than LD and Beckham...I don't see Gio as a replacement for LD...Gerrard gives you a little more range and bite than Beckham.

I'm not giving it to LA just yet.

Galaxy weren't favorites the last ones and won it 3 out of 4. We aren't favorites this year but don't be surprised if we make the Finals and win it here in LA again!!!

At least someone watched and enjoyed the Philly Chicago game.

My brother says Sean Johnson was a one man show for the Fire for the hundredth time. The midfielders and forwards and coaching staff have basically ruined his career and profile. I can't believe I'm gonna say this but he needs to go to a real MLS team if he doesn't go to Europe. The Fire are, in true Chicago fashion, a pair of concrete shoes dragging Sean Johnson and his career into the bottom of Lake Michigan.

Congratulations to Bruce Arena. The dick was always a good coach. Backed by his partner in crime, Garber, they have finagled the rules and assembled a super squad within an era of "parity". Enjoy it LA fans, will be a fun playoffs.

Let's not kid ourselves, LA fans...with a base salary approx. 3x higher than Dallas, any "favorites on form" status that Dallas had before the match was tenuous at best.

Bad reffing on both sides of the ball, but ultimately not the tipping point of the match. The Dallas players don't seem confident in their ability to get on the end of balls sent into the box from the flanks when the opposition is parking the bus, as evidenced by the fact that most of our attacks were coming down the middle and thwarted at the top of the 18.

I 100% agree with the parts that I quoted. LAG will quite possibly lose to any of the better defensive teams they will come across between here and the cup win.
It could be DC, NYRB, VAN, SKC, or still the within possibilities: Dallas or Portland. No way will it be Seattle. So they will possibly have to go through 3 teams capable of doing exactly what Chris described. Very good post- the writing's on the wall. Our defensive problems are brutal. If I had to pick two, it's that 1) Leonardo loses challenges/markings left and right, and 2) one defender gets injured or suspended and we are in a world of hurt. All we can really do is replace a RB, and just barely.
We are a giant with feet of clay right now. Huge mistake not trading a M or F or two for some D before the deadline. Our best bet is possession plus a few key counters, and having several awesomely-accurate longball players with help with a few chances on the latter part.
And yet, some of our D liabilities are also strengths: Rogers and Gonzo have gaffes, but they also have a huge chance of contributing on a goal. Our left side is a headache for other, when Lletget is nasty going inward and Rogers is great on the overlap. And our right side is almost as nasty- De La Garza is not bad going forward either, and Zardes is solid at going inward.

As things stand, we hold our breath every time Leonardo has to do anything, and we have no fix for that, barring some crazy out-of-contract CB find between now and the Sept deadline.

Yes, and yes. SJ needs to keep getting looks, please god, no more Rimando call-ups (not a personal dig on Nick, at all). But I don't think playing for the Fire right now will be terrible for his career. He's at a good point to be fighting for points every week. Also, their defense isn't miserable, so he's not necessarily ingraining bad habits of organizing the D. I don't follow the team, so I don't know for sure.

LAG is embarrassingly the favorite child of a league that tries to pride itself on parity, and I value that parity, and would sacrifice for more of it. However, if any MLS team can win the CCF, and... even tread water... at the World Club Championships, it will have been worth the sacrifice of principles.... at least in the medium term.

Yeah, Leonardo is awful. Reminds me of Xavier. Remember that guy? I used to crack up every time I saw him he was so bad.

Yes, the D looked horrible at Dallas, but they're usually not that bad. Leo doesn't play that much, thank God. And Bruce knows he's a liability.

The fire suck they will not make the playoffs any time soon. And yes i think Galaxy's weakest link is Leonardo never really liked him. Lol i remember Xavier what ever happened to that guy. Should of never let go of Franklin, our back 4 would of been Robbie, AJ, Gonzo, Franklin. Also hearing Zardes is getting serious interest from Abroad most likely his last year with galaxy. They need the $$ right now anyways because their on a tight budget.

Yeah, Xavier was at the end of his career, but he was still about a third as good as he thought he was.

You guys need a reality check.

Not favorites, "tight budget", and complaining about one random half scrub when every other team has at least three. No wonder the four of you numbnuts led by el capitan Tonto opinions regarding the USMNT are ever valid. @mmee you went heel as I recall, bad move.

hamsamwich, I don't understand you. Drunk post?
Read what I said.

I was talking about reasons that I don't think the Galaxy will repeat.
I was not "complaining" that the Galaxy have one low-quality player for MLS standards. I was explaining why I think there are like 4-6 teams that can knock Galaxy out of the playoffs, and how I think Leonardo will be part of that loss.

I did a heel turn on my JK support, yes. I described it that way because it's more fun for the rest of you to sling mud at the bad guy. Also I just agreed with you, like 4 posts up, Mr.Crabby.

But half of what you said doesn't make sense. It's just word salad.
Did you have a stroke??

Sounds like the rant of someone jealous of our embarrassment of riches over here. . .
On the bright side, yes, of course there's a decent chance that someone can knock off the Galaxy at some point in the playoffs. Stranger things have happened. It's just that they're the clear favorites.
