So there were a couple of things that effected US goalies in the last 24 hour. Here's a summary.

Firstly is the retirement of Brad Freidel. Arguably the best yank in EPL ever. Holds an EPL record. Led US to their most successful world cup. Class act. Cant say enough good things about him.

Horvath/Howard- Molde denied to release him for the world cup this summer. Why would a team refuse to release a backup goalie? Well Everton has been eyeing Molde's starter. A young, 24 year old who is Norway's national team top goalie. With Courtois not going anywhere he's considered the top goalie prospect and Everton is rumored to bring him in to become the heir to Howard. With Howards roller coaster ride if they bring him in could it be the end of Howard at Everton sooner than later? We could end of with a U20 goalie starting at a top club in Norway but losing our top goalie starting in EPL. Its not inconveivable that we have no goalies starting in EPL next year. Wow how quickly things can change.

Guzan will move on if he isn't first choice at Aston Villa. Another EPL club will take him.

I hope Guzan moves on. I will say this: I won't be surprised if Guzan does not start for the US at the Gold Cup.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hamid is the starter this summer. Dude is in hella good form.

What about Klinsmans GK decisions so far would make you think Hamid will be the starting keeper? Hamid may not even make the roster with JK consistently playing Rimando and now giving Yarbrough looks. I don't know if Klinsman doesn't favor Hamid for some reason, but he doesn't seem to be giving him any opportunities. Its crazy cause he is such a good keeper.

Klinsman likes a leader back there. Usually Leadership comes with age. Directing a defense, etc is something that usually is characteristic of older GK's not younger ones.
That is why JK generally prefers older GK's. Not saying Hamid can't do any of those things. Just saying that's what JK wants.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rimando is not on the Gold Cup roster. But Yarbrough just got relegated with Leon so???? I don't think Yarbrough is all of the sudden a lock for the Gold Cup. I think Hamid and Guzan are.

Judging from his selections I think Guzan and Rimando are locks for Gold Cup. I don't think Rimando should be on the Gold Cup Roster. But I see no reason to think that JK won't have him on the roster.

I'd like to see Guzan with Hamid and Yarbrough.

Actaully I don't Understand Mexico's relegation/promotion system. Does only one team get relegated? If so then Leon didn't get relegated it was U.D.G.

It's confusing. They go by some type of point system from the last three tournaments.

So after the main Euro season this much has changed regarding our gk pool:

Guzan- Villa avoided relegation. The new question though is Guzan still there #1? He should get a chance in the FA cup final to show what he can do.

Horvath- 19 year old gets first appearance for Molde and gets a shutout. If Mold'es number 1 moves on he could be a starter for a top Norweigan team this summer. May be passing Cropper to be the Euor camp #3 goalie.

Cropper- Speaking of Cropper. He was released/not resigned by Southampton. He's now a free agent. Will be real curious where he goes. MLS? England? In my opinion he should let some of the dominos play out and try to get a Championship #1 spot or at a minimum a team with a shaky goalie so he can get some chances. He needs minutes this year or otherwise the other guys will be flying by him.

Ter Stegen and Leno are playing with the u21 team this summer and not the senior team and we have to get excited for a goalie who can barely start for Villa and a 5 foot 6 goalie who's going to start in the Gold Cup for us

Yep. Cropper has been released by two English clubs now. I would imagine MLS is the next stop for him.

I have never really been on the Cropper hype train. Good Keeper, but nothing really that special about him.

The USMNT GK corps is looking mighty weak these days. I have a feeling Klinsmann will try to convince Howard to come back for the Gold Cup.

Hopefully Horton, Steffen, and Horvath continue to develop in Europe.

I wouldn't be surprised if Horton beats out Cropper for the U-23 starting job.

Horton will hopefully get a loan this season. Cardiff has 3 decent, not great goalies (Scotland's number 2 I believe and two 25-27 year olds). No chance he breaks through anytime soon. A loan to a Championship or League 1 team to get minutes would be best for him.

Horvath can hopefully get this year and another 2 as Molde's number 1. That would make him a 22 year old with some european experience and then he could hopefully jump up the Euro ladder in 2018 and start to work his way into US picture once Guzan and Howard are done in Russia.

With Freiburg being relegated youd think Burkl will be gone as Switzerland is too good to have a goalie playing in 2.bundes. That should open up at least the #3 spot, maybe #2.

I think Steffen and Horvath could become the Howard/Guzan come 2022 through 2026 cycle.

From the limited things I've seen of cropper, he is very much a Guzan type goalie. An incredible shot stopper when he is on, but very prone to boneheaded mistakes and his distribution is bad.

Personally I'd like to see klinsmann give Steve Clark a chance. The guy won goalkeeper of the year in Norway a couple years ago and ever since coming to the crew has been very solid if not excellent!

It's hard to write off any GK's at such a young age. GK's are usually much later in development and often aren't in their primes until very late 20's and early to mid 30's.
So all these U-23's and U-20's have a LOT of time left to get better, etc.
The best thing for a young GK is getting real minutes. A GK can play in a bad league and come in and do very well in International soccer. Particularly a lot more so than a field player can.
Of course it helps to be in the bigger leagues, but you can do quite well in smaller leagues still.

So Cropper needs to go some where, where he will get first team minutes. Preferably somewhere that still has a good GK coach.
