The same could of been said about Beckerman, had not done anything to get knocked off his starting role with the MNT. Always playing and at a consistent level. I just Don't see Mix starting by 2017/2018. He will decline slowly and others will come in and make a statement say Nagbe for example.

Beckermans age is the reason he's not an option for 2018 which is why he's being transitioned out of the starting lineup. Has nothing to do with his skill drop off.

I hope Kljestan has progressed from what he was internationally in the past because if he plays like he did previously we'll be very similar to what we look like with Mix in the lineup... Average.

Even if SK has improved dramatically we'll still be below par in the midfield against decent competition.

In all honesty I hope Hyndman, Sonora, and/or Zelalem impresses with their clubs over the next few years. Until these types of players progress at club level... Nothing much will change. Have really liked what I've seen of Hyndman both with Fulham and the US.

No, it's not a lame argument. Mixx hasn't done anything to justify getting knocked out of his position on the MNT. He's had numerous games where he was the best US player on the pitch (Czech Republic for instance). Your pathological need to de-value his contributions at the national team level is ridiculous at this point.[/quote
The reason it's a lame argument is teams should always look to improve. Under your reasoning young players wouldn't get a chance until an injury of retirement. Unless the guy is starting for a UCL team we shouldn't be looking to improve. Who's to say hyndman, powers, Gil, etc couldn't do just as well given the minutes he's gotten.

I am not exactly high on either Mix or Kljestan at the moment, but other options are not there just yet. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing what Joe Corona looks like at a CM position. And also I think when it comes down to it this summer we see Alfredo Morales partnered with Bradley.

But I will say this I really liked Mix at RM in that diamond midfield. It allows him to get more attack minded while not being to drained defensively. I thought he had an outstanding game against Mexico.

for me Danny Williams, Perry Kitchen, and Alfredo Morales are all primed to take the mantle from Beckerman at DM. All three will be fighting it out this cycle.

I think the real question comes to this: Will MB90 be starting come 2018? If Zelalem continues to progress and Hyndman continues to progress and Pelosi continues to progress you could see exactly where I am going. All three have a lot of talent, and MB90 will be 31 in 2018.

I actually hope MB90 isn't starting in 2018. Don't get me wrong, I love me some MB90 but who wouldn't want Zelalem, Hyndman, Sonora, etc. to become world class players and surpass MB in the pecking order.

Those players all have the potential to transform the USMNT from what we know today. I look forward to seeing all these players grow and fight each other for starting spots, even at the expense of MB90 or any other current NT player.

I am a fan of MB90, but I think player starting 11 personnel could look quite different come the 2018 WC.

Love MB90. But if he is not starting in 2018 I think that will largely be a good thing. Will likely mean that a few of the young guys have progressed a lot and gotten pretty good. That is only good for USMNT.

Typically, young players don't displace established guys in their prime unless it's performance based and/or the young player is overwhelmingly talented. I don't see either being the case with Mix.

for me its really hard to distinguish b/t sacha, benny, nguyen and powers right now

not sure i buy that nguyen is really struggling. NER offensive is one of best in league and he is right in the middle of it

if it were up to me id put all 4 under microscope over next few weeks. feel there is room for 2 on gold cup roster...

sacha at dallas tonight only one on national tv this week
benny and powers go head-to-head tomorrow in KC

we'll see how mix responds to the criticism tonight. welcome to bright lights of NYC! - - you're not in norway anymore...

SKC v NER

i agree that odds are on JK doubling down on mix as well as MB as an AM but one has to think that nguyen and feilhaber are both on the radar

nguyen massive season in 2014 but feilhaber playing some of best soccer of career.

maybe a chance for 1 to sneak onto GC roster

after last nights game...

benny should be a USMNT team player this summer. nguyen not so much

benny with an assist to give SKC the lead then added game-winning PK. nguyen seems to reverting to pre-2014 form, which was ok but not great.

kljestan and feilhaber clearly the 2 best central attack-mined CMs of this generation of players. and its not really close. both should be on GC squad

JK snubbed both last cycle and Im sure will continue to do so this cycle

Rain,

Didn't you say in another thread that you didn't want to beat this dead horse (or something similar)?

Yet you continue to talk about it (even though everyone else is not talking about it).

Gunner you broke his streak of having a convo with himself. He was up to three posts in a row. Maybe next time he can get to 4 or 5

If it hadn't been for the post the other day (different thread) about not wanting to keep talking about it...I'd have let it go...Just had to call him out.

so do people agree or disagree that benny and sacha are best 'CAM's in pool and deserve to be a part of USMNT?

if not, who is better and based on what evidence? specifically, what have they done at club level in last year that makes you feel they are better?

this question is to everyone
