One of the centerbacks did go down for a while so CCV could get sometime. But, it looks like Sheffield United had decided to move on from him and just have him ride the pine. So Tottenham did not want to have him get lost and brought him back to work with him some more.

Just means he will be paid a little more and have a higher transfer fee now his contract isn't nearing its completion.

Spurs are at a crossroads. They are firmly in the top 6 but have won nothing lately. Pochetino is trying to negotiate his next contract and has leverage because of outside offers. He will presumably ask for an infusion of cash to strenthen the squad. On top of that, the biggest clubs in Europe are sniffing around their best players. For them to hold on to them, they have to strengthen to squad to show ambition to win silverware. If they don't, they will lose these players and end up with a great infusion of cash they will then spend on building the squad.

So in effect, Spurs look to me to be a club that will become like Chelsea. They will develop players to sell them on to make a profit.
