So the Superdraft's first 2 rounds were today and there were a few surprises. The most shocking one was the Christian Roldan dropped down to the 16th pick, which Seattle traded for. Besides that a lot of players that weren't projected to go in the first 2 rounds ended being picked. Any thoughts on some of the picks?

This is what i took away from the draft:
-Khiry Shelton looks like he is going to become a valuable
striker for NYCFC in the future if they can hold onto him
-Portland Timbers definitley in my book had the best draft day.
Nick Besler is a good defensive cm compliment to nagbes attacking style which could open up the midfield a lot. Did some research on their second round pick too, Christian Volesky, kid came out of a no name college but plays some quality soccer, solid foward and one of the best players at the combine imo.
Cyle Larin has about a 90% chance that he will end up as a bust(see zakuani, mwanga, adu, etc.)
Pretty good prospects overall, should be a good season with talented rookies to watch.

Roldan was a solid pickup. I was very suprised with Torontos selections they drafted 2 centerbacks who I thought should have been drafted later especially Clement Simonin who wasnt at the combine and wasnt expected to be drafted. Bono was a solid pick just suprised they didnt go after Roldan considering their need for a #6. RSL did well with the Okonowu pick in the second round. Orlando City in my opinion had the best draft they got Larin but they also got conor donovan which surprised me considering I expected him picked in top 10 or late as 15.

Stoltz pick up by New York was a good selection. Philidelphia Union did well in secound round Dzenan Catic selection he is a sleeper but in my opinion give him some time and he could become a good mls player. Eric Bird pick later in the second round was a good value pick. Overall this draft seemed forward centric early on but in the end I thought that this was a pretty deep draft for centerbacks . Los Angles trading away Marcelo Sarvas today is signaling their intent to pick up Klijestan.

Since I am a Sounders fan I was pretty excited to see Roldan drop so the Sounders could maneuver to get him. TO be honest I see Roldan getting minutes as an RM. I think it's bogus to say he will be a DM. He is to attack minded.

My takeaways:

Orlando City did pretty well. They are set-up for a long time at CB. They now have potentially two future USMNT CB's in their team with Redding (who was an HG) and now drafting Connor Donovan today.

NYCFC probably got the steal of this draft with Khiry Shelton. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is rookie of the year and is on the USMNT radar in two years for the 2017 Gold Cup. He will get plenty of minutes in Kreis' 4-4-2 diamond system. And hell he is going to playing with David Villa.

Toronto definitely got one of the USMNT's top GK prospects in Bono. Don't be surprised if he beats out Cropper for the starting GK spot for the U-23 Olympic team.

Portland probably got the best DM in the draft with Nick Besler. Don't be surprised to see him on the USMNT radar in a couple of years as well. He could very well be in the running for Rookie of the year as well. He will get plenty of minutes with Portland.

Over all I think this draft class was stronger than the previous two draft classes.

Nice to see the Quakes stockpiling Dmids...wtf. I thought we should add some quality young defenders since the back line is aging and there is absolutely noooo depth...Oh well, just shows how much faith Dom has in the players Doyle brought in last season...truly the Hasselhoff of all MLS GMs.

The Columbus Crew won this draft. Flipping #14 for #19 and Chris Klute was a great move.
