The 34-year-old is joining in July for 2 years.

So glad it wasn't Kljestan.

Discuss.

Funny. Yeah, that's a horrifying thought.

It's hard to think the Galaxy is overpaying for him. It's only 2 years and his annual salary is half of what he's currently making - sure he's not as good as he was 5 years ago, but I think he's got a very good 2 years left in him.

Bruce might have to try a 5 man midfield, which an old school, whitey American like me never likes.

That's funny, I was thinking the exact same thing about the 5-man midfield.

no reason to disparage kljestan, who has proven he can be a valuable asset on a championship caliber squad - something he has been doing at anderlecht for years.

i like SG as much as the next guy but Gerrard at 35 (the age he will be when he joins LAG) a MUCH better signing than kljestan at 28 (age he was when LA was looking to sign him)?

(as blaise mentioned on other thread) reports are that NYRB is on verge of signing sacha, while NYCFC are closing in on diskerud.

if happens, would all be very nice additions to the league... and we'll see who adds the most value to their club

I have been known to bash SG on here as I think Lampard but the better player, but both will find it hard in MLS. Gerrard is best known for his engine, which is slowing and in the heat of the summer who knows how he will hold up. As for Lampard, well he was becoming injury prone and with the amount of travel there is in MLS who knows.

Hi rain! Fancy meeting you here!!

SG is too old, sure.
SK is where a chain of passes goes to die with a poor decision.

Why is it that when a big name from Europe joins mls they mainly go to NYRB (now also NYFC) or LA Galaxy?

Fairly obvious. You gotta remember these guys are humans (or at least some of them allow themselves to be after a long, successful career - well deserved IMO).

I mean, Qatar? Seriously? Imagine the look on his wife's face if he came home one day and said 'Qatar.'

We know that you will be first in line purchase the home, away, and alternative Sacha Kljestan full replica uniforms but everyone else not named Kljestan would buy a Gerrard jersey instead. And go to the games to watch him. The LAG will make astronomical sums of money from this signing.

And as far as on-the-field goes, both are veterans and signed only for what they will contribute in the next two seasons or so, during which the Galaxy aim to win silverware. Anyone who watched Gerrard play last season knows that he would be much more able to contribute to those ambitions than Sacha Kljestan.

But I'm curious...who do you think is better at this point, Kljestan or Gerrard?

Places like Dubai and now Qatar are absolute playgrounds for the wealthy. It's not like they're surrounded by bhurkas and have to go to mosque five times a day.

You can't just be in a resort environment for months on end, you need a little culture to enjoy. And the Qatar culture is a desolate wasteland of islam and subjugation of lower income peoples/women.

They go back home during the off-seasons. But as millionaire super-stars they hardly participate nor consume the local culture of wherever they are...they are in a completely different stratus of society, one to which Qatar has plenty to offer. Of course it would be miserable to live there long-term but a couple years would be cool. I don't think they give a shit about the plight of poor people hidden from their view (of which there are plenty in the US, btw) and as far as the women go, they won't mind the subjugation they're getting there.

Confirmed that they moved Sarvas to Colorado.

Well rainORshine, if LAG does bring Kljestan, I'll eat a little crow on that, even if I'm not sure about precisely what.

Boy is this going to save me hundreds of dollars on Galaxy tickets this season.
Too bad my LAG will not go far in the playoffs.

I still think Galaxy needs an Elite defender more than anything else Gonzo needs a CB partner or a very good RB. Not sure i'm sold on SK but if he comes i think he will be a solid option off the bench or an occasional start here and there.
