Well, it looks like I'm in the minority again for being happy with US soccer progress over the last 30 years. No surprise there.

Reading through these posts reminds me how good Bruce Arena was to get the results he got (and Bora in 94; and Bradley to a lesser extent). Not to mention the results he's been getting w/ LA over the last few years. Really an incredible coaching career from UVA to DC United to USMNT to LA.

As the forums resident history major, I laughed at the Pliny joke.

You mean there is more than one of us here?

Hey fellas, the Pliny I was referring to is a Norcal beer from the Russian River brewing Co. You gave me too much cred. I do know the story behind the Elder...a valiant noble way to go..........but only after i wiki'd the dude on my beer label haha.

its not like I actually use the damn degree, but yea we are out there. I even get the phi alpha theta quarterly publication for alumni. I'm a nerd when it comes to that stuff. Wanted to write a history of soccer in the USA book, but I've branched out in a completely different line of work. Maybe in 10 years I will have time.

I'm going to put this argument to bed. Just the amount of severe arguing over the team, the results, the coach etc... That is the progress. The websites, twitter, multiplication of soft weirdos like grant wahl, it's all getting bigger. The fact we expect anything at all out of soccer is enough in itself. We used to expect nothing, and get just that.

I agree HamSamwich, the stir around soccer alone in this country is evidence enough
