So you agree with JK that JJones should be playing CB? You think that will be useful to the USMNT heading toward 2018?

IMO, as long as he can still play at a high level he might as well have the opportunity to contribute to USMNT.

I'm starting to see the early signs of another Rain obsession, this time w/ Morales.

And my 2 cents, Gold Cup is important enough that you should play to win. Field the best team at game time.

My starting 11 would be a 4-1-3-2

--- Dempsey - Johansson ----

- Rubin - Mix - Bedoya --

----- Bradley -----

- Garza - Gonzo - Brooks - Yedlin -

--- Guzan ----

Subs.. Fabian, Morales, Besler, Jozy, Cameron, Sean Johnson.

I'm sure in the next month or so i would have a different line up. Might trow a few sub 20 players in there depending on how they do in the WC. Well that's if we qualify.

My bad. Totally forgot about Deandre. Yes, I would start him over Chandler. Even if Timmy has more playing time.

my lineup, assuming everyone is healthy:

f:altidore
f:dempsey
lw:zardes
cm:nguyen
cm:feilhaber
rw:gyau
lb:fab johnson
cb: brooks
cb: cameron
rb: chandler
g: guzan

lotsa question marks and reluctant picks. cb, forwards, rb hardest to pick.

i do. i can see him transitioning to CB for NE sometime in 2016.

if he is up to it, he should have plenty in the tank to play CB in 2018 and his pedigree is too high to leave off the field. whether or not he is up to it is certainly in question

i think its worth the risk to play him there now - if it works you already have a solid foundation with brooks/jones. if not, you have plenty of time to look for a better option

Jones will and not be a CB in the future i Guarantee it, is just a temporary experience. Just like Maurice edu back then. Is not gonna work we seen him struggle against inferior opposition and the man is up there in age his game will be declining from now on plus he will be playing in the Midfield for club and wont be used to or familiar with the CB position.

I have a feeling come Gold Cup Chandler will be the starting RB. I am a Yedlin guy, but from the way Pochettino is talking about Yedlin needing time to acclimate to his surroundings and new team; it sounds to me that Yedlin will see scarce first team minutes the rest of the EPL season.

If I had to base a starting GC 11 off of the players right now; this is it:

----------Altidore--------
Bedoya------Deuce------Rubin
-------Bradley-----Cam----
Garza----Brooks----Jones----Chandler
------------Guzan-----------

Full 23:

GK: Rimando, Hamid, Guzan

Defense: Yedlin, Chandler, Garza, Fabian, Brooks, Gonzo, Jones, Besler

CM/DM: Bradley, Diskerud, Cameron, Morales, Nguyen

Attackers: Deuce, Altidore, Rubin, Bedoya, ArJo, Gyau, Green

In the hunt:

Defense: Alvarado, Hedges, Orozco, Castillo, Ream, Soares

CM's: Williams, Corona, Kitchen

Attackers: Morris, Zardes, Pontius, Gil, Wondo

Yes I have Rubin with the full USMNT for the Gold Cup instead of playing for the U-20's at the WC.

I could also see Morris easily displace Green or Gyau if Morris decides to sign that HG contract with Seattle. He will be in Seattle's first team plans from the first day of the season. I wouldn't say either Gyau or Green are locks at this point.

Will Jozy lose his spot? I think it all depends on what happens during the January transfer.

I could also see Fabian lose his spot to lets say Alvarado if Alvarado continues to play while Fabian continues to ride the pine.

Wild card player: Zelalem. If he does get that US citizenship, does Klinsmann bring him to the Gold Cup as incentive?

Where is all of this Chandler love coming from? I get that he's getting playing time but for me the RB spot is still Fabian's to lose. Chandler has not played well for the US, admittedly he's mostly been used at LB but he only looked average when he played RB against Honduras in October.

Fabian needs to get playing time with his club but he's in a similar situation in Gladbach to Jozy in Sunderland and Jozy has yet to lose his place.

If Fabian regains the form he showed this summer what more do we want? Sure Yedlin has some tantalizing attributes and if he does well in London and steals the position great, but in my mind RB is still Fabian's position until somebody grabs it or Fabian really sh*ts the bed. I don't think either has happened yet.
